Hook and Line Sturgeon Season Starts

Hook and line sturgeon season starts on Saturday.  Anglers who want to harvest a lake sturgeon must have their general 2025 fishing license and a valid line lake sturgeon tag.  Only one sturgeon can be harvested per season for each license holder, and harvested fish will have to be registered at designated stations.  The season will run until September 30th.  More information about sturgeon season and  is available on DNR-dot-Wisconsin-dot-gov.

The Packers opened the season with a 27 to 13 win over the Lions at Lambeau Field. Jordan Love threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Josh Jacobs extended his franchise record after scoring a rushing touchdown in his ninth consecutive game. Next up: the Washington Commanders in the Thursday Night game.

EC Man Pleads Not Guilty

An Eau Claire man facing charges of child sexual assault is pleading not guilty.  Eighty-two-year-old Robert Karstensen appeared in Eau Claire County court yesterday.   Karstensen and his neighbor are accused of sexually assaulting several victims over the course of multiple years.

Police Investigate Possible Break In

Eau Claire Police are investigating a Monday incident at the former Sacred Heart Hospital.  Video shows a man entering the building with his face shielded from view.  Officers responding to the scene report finding a door that had been opened by force.  There has been no confirmation on anything being stolen.

La Crosse Plans Temporary Park Closures, Safety Concerns

In La Crosse, city officials are ordering the temporary closures of the Burns and Cameron Parks.  The closures are effective immediately and due to what Mayor Shaundel Washington-Spivey says is the behavior of sheltered and unsheltered individuals.  The mayor says there are concerns about the safety and integrity of those public spaces that include the selling of drugs, drug use, violence and other inappropriate conduct.  Plans are being made to address those issues.

WI Joins Multi-State Coalition

The state of Wisconsin is joining a multi-state coalition aimed at improving air quality through affordable, low-emission vehicles.  Governor Tony Evers says joining the Affordable Clean Cars Coalition will help reduce pollution and support automotive manufacturing jobs in the US.  Wisconsin is one of 12 states in the coalition.

Bucky Can Budget

Wisconsin has some of the best budgeters in the nation. A new study by WalletHub compares all 50 states based on metrics like median credit scores, average amount of debt, and foreclosure rates. Wisconsin ranks fourth-best for budgeting, with Hawaii, Washington, and Massachusetts in the top three. The study shows Mississippi and Louisiana has the worst budgeters.

Dunn Co. Welcomes New Assistant County Manager

Dunn County has completed its administrative transition with new County Manager Dan Dunbar appointing Jenalee Nutter as Assistant County Manager.  Nutter said she will continue to serve as the county’s Human Resources Director, assuming a dual leadership role within the organization.  The appointment was made by Dan Dunbar, Dunn County’s newly appointed County Manager, taking over in August from Kris Korpela.   Dunbar served as Assistant County Manager under Korpela.  “Jenalee has done an exceptional job in the Human Resources Department, and I am confident she is ready
