Welcome to 2025! We’re glad you are here and thank you for starting the day-and new year-with us! It’s New Year’s Day. More than one-million people gathered in New York’s Times Square, and it’s now 2025. Across the globe thousands gathered in Sydney Harbor to ring in 2025 at 8 a.m. Eastern time with a fireworks display that lasted about 15 minutes. Tokyo welcomed in the New year at 10 a.m. Eastern while Paris rang it in at 6 p.m.

Man Facing Attempted Homicide Charges

There are charges for a man who Tomah Police say shot an elderly man in the head early yesterday morning. Police arrested 46-year-old Ryan Goad a couple of hours after the shooting. Investigators say the victim was hit in the head and shoulder, and was last reported in critical condition at a hospital in La Crosse. Keeping the Wreath Green: ECFD Reports Safe Holiday Season

Firefighters in Eau Claire say the city didn’t see any holiday season house fires. The city’s fire department yesterday said it was able to keep its wreath green. Firefighters in Eau Claire put up a wreath outside of the firehouse with green lights. If there’s a fire, they change one of the lights to red. This year, Eau Claire didn’t have any red lights. The last time that happened was back in 2019.

Person of Interest Identified, Search Continues in New Lisbon Deaths

There continue to be unanswered questions about the deaths of three people in New Lisbon on Monday. Investigators yesterday said two of the three people found dead in a home were juveniles. But police refused to say if they were two young people who were reported missing this week. The third person found dead was an adult. Madison School Shooting Victims Upgraded

Two of the victims of Madison’s school shooting have been upgraded. Doctors yesterday said two of the people shot earlier this month are now listed in fair condition. They had been listed in critical condition since the shooting back on December 16th. A teacher and student both died in that shooting, and four others were wounded. State Investigates In-Custody Death

The state is looking into an in-custody death involving Madison Police. The Department of Justice yesterday said its opened an investigation into the arrest at the Best Western on Annamark Drive on Monday. Madison Police say an officer arrested a man after a report of a stolen car and a chase. The suspect was seen by paramedics before being loaded-up for a trip to jail. Investigators say, however, that the suspect was dead when he arrived at the jail. Madison

MKE Sees Dip in Homicides

Milwaukee’s homicide numbers are down, again. The city’s police department yesterday said Milwaukee is on pace for just under 140 killings for the year. That’s down from  215 in 2022 and 172 last year, but will still be higher than Milwaukee’s pre-COVID numbers. Mayor Cavalier Johnson says Milwaukee still has work to do. Winter Conditions Contribute to Bird Flu Spread

One UW expert is blaming the warm winter for the spread of the bird flu. Jerry Clark with the extension office at UW-Madison says not as many wild birds have migrated south this year, and that has kept the bird flu in circulation. Brewers fans won’t have to go search for the games next spring. FanDuel Sports Network yesterday announced that it will broadcast the teams’ games. FanDuel is the replacement for Bally Sports which broadcast the Brewers’ games last year. Most people who have cable TV in Wisconsin already have FanDuel Sports Network. They are currently handling Bucks games this season.
