Tomah Man Arrested After Months Long Investigation

A man from Monroe County is under arrest and accused of having hundreds of images and videos of child pornography.  James Ossinger of Tomah is charged with multiple counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13. He was arrested after a months-long investigation. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children made an initial report to the County Sheriff’s Office.

School Board Hosting Session About Open School Board Seats

Three seats are opening on the Eau Claire School Board.  The Eau Claire Area School District will host a spring election on April first of next year to fill the positions.  Candidates can start circulating nomination papers on the first of December.  The district is hosting an informational session tomorrow at 7 p.m for anyone interested in learning more about the job.

Deadly Accident Under Investigation

On Tuesday November 20th, 2024 at 5:40 pm the Barron County 911 Center received several calls of a serious traffic accident on Hwy 8 and 2nd Street just east of Turtle Lake. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Turtle Lake Police Department, Turtle Lake Fire Department, Cumberland Ambulance, Turtle Lake First Responders and Life Link Helicopter responded to the scene. Merrill Woman Facing Domestic Battery Charges

A Merrill woman faces domestic battery charges after allegedly injuring a man with a firework placed under a toilet seat. Authorities say the 27-year-old woman acted on a suggestion from another individual to plant a pressure-activated firework before the man used the bathroom. State Report Cards Released

Chippewa Valley schools maintained strong performance in the latest state report cards. Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls districts met standards, while Altoona exceeded them. Changes to math and English assessments make this year a baseline for future comparisons. All three districts scored above state averages in testing, with Altoona excelling in math. Chippewa Falls reported a 95-percent graduation rate, slightly above the state average.

Octoberfest Gives Back

Oktoberfest’s annual Give Back event distributed 21-thousand dollars to 40 local organizations on Tuesday. Since its start in 2003, Oktoberfest has donated over 450-thousand dollars to the community. Organizers said funds are allocated based on volunteer hours contributed during the event. The Festmeister and Festmeisterin expressed pride in supporting local groups and hope to continue the tradition for years to come.

Work Begins on Oneida Nation Museum

Work is getting underway on the new Oneida Nation Museum.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the building site off of Airport Drive outside Green Bay yesterday.  The new facility will have more space to house and display artifacts and documents that preserve the history of the tribe.  The 15-million-dollar project is expected to be completed in spring of 2026.
