Gov. Evers Signs Pay Raise Bills

Two bills releasing pay raises to Universities of Wisconsin employees have been passed, after six months of debate. More than 35-thousand employees will get four-percent raises now that Governor Tony Evers has signed the bills after disputes about diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. During the back and forth, UW regents rejected a deal that would have released the 32-million-dollars withheld by the state legislature. Governor Tony Evers sued UW, saying the blockages were already approved — that suit is ongoing.

WI A.G. Joins Brief for Medication Access

Wisconsin’s Attorney General is joining a coalition asking for the protection of medication abortions nationally. The brief, signed by A-G Josh Kaul and 23 other attorneys general, was signed in the U-S Supreme Court. The group is asking that the drug mifepristone, which blocks a hormone required for a sustained pregnancy, be available. Frozen Road Declarations Set to Lift

All Wisconsin frozen road declarations will be lifted by tomorrow (Sat). The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says roads will be deemed Class Two statewide – meaning they could be damaged if heavy trucks drive on them. Fourteen-hundred miles of roadway will be eligible for weight restrictions after midnight on Saturday. Local government entities get to decide whether they uphold weight limits on roads like county highways or village streets.

Enrollment Open for Conservation Program

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s (DATCP) is reminding agricultural producers and private landowners to apply for the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP). Enrollment opened January 12 and applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until July 31, 2024, or until the acreage cap is met. Pedestrian Crash Remains Under Investigation

On January 31, 2024, at 5:45 pm, the St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call reporting a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle on County Road N near Baker Road, in the Town of Hudson. Upon arrival, deputies found a 2009 Dodge Ram pickup in the roadway with front-end damage. Deadly Bar Shooting Under Investigation

An investigation is underway after two people ended-up being shot to death inside an Elkhorn sports bar. Police found 33-year-old Emerson Weingart and his 37-year-old wife Gina dead inside the Sports Page Barr early yesterday morning. Former Packer Pleads Guilty, Facing Jail Time

A former Green Bay Packers player could be looking at jail time. Brown County authorities say Letroy Guion was booked into the county jail Wednesday on a probation violation. He was given a suspended sentence back in 2022 for a 2021 aggravated battery case. He pleaded guilty. As part of that suspended sentence, though, Guion had to stay out of trouble.
