On March 25, 2024, at 1:40 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a tip from the State School Tip Line Speak up Speak Out regarding a possible threat at the Prairie Farm School. School was not in session and school administration were contacted about the threat. Deputies immediately started an investigation into the anonymous threat. The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office says a man died while cleaning the City of Blair’s water tank.  It happened Saturday afternoon when the sheriff’s office was called to the water tank where a man was said to be trapped.  The man, whose name is not being released as of now, was wearing scuba gear while he cleaned sediment from the tank.  Officials say the man had complained to coworkers he was becoming cold but he kept working.  They believe he

Investigators say they believe the cause of a fire at a duplex in La Crosse this weekend was electrical in nature.  Only moderate damage was reported to the duplex and there were no injuries from the fire that broke out Saturday night.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread.  It was mostly restricted to the attic of the duplex.

The owners of Kalahari Resorts say they are developing a 50-million-dollar property on Lake Delton that will include luxury treehouses. The property, to be called the Kalahari Treehouse Collection at Dawn Manor, will be near the flagship Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.  A news release says the treehouses are being designed in partnership with Pete Nelson and his family, the former stars of Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters.”  The property’s initial phase is set to open late this year.

A new analysis says the University of Wisconsin-Madison is the most selective college or university in the state. Data for the analysis, developed from The Business Journal, used figures from the U.S. Department of Education. UW-Madison’s acceptance rate last year was just over 49 percent while ultimately more than 29 percent of those accepted enrolled. UW-Madison was followed by UW-La Crosse, the Milwaukee School of Engineering and UW-Eau Claire in the average rankings for state colleges. 

If you have plans to travel in our state, just a heads up that crews are scheduled to start work today on a nine-mile resurfacing project along Highway 27 in Crawford County.  State DOT officials say the project will extend from Northwest Avenue in Seneca north to Fairview.  The four-point-five-million-dollar project reportedly will also include updated curb ramps in Mount Sterling, as well as the replacement of guardrails and culvert pipers and some tree clearing.  Transportation officials say the work

Two Wisconsin teachers are now in the Teachers Hall of Fame. Shelly Moore Krajacic of South Milwaukee High School and Terry Kaldhusdal of Kettle Moraine Middle School have become the second and third ever Wisconsin teachers added to the Hall. Both have taught since the 1990s.   

The Potawatomi Tribe is announcing a project that will make it a carbon-neutral business by 2050. The geothermal project will see them dig a hole as much as 600 feet deep at the Potawatomi Casino Hotel. The project will cost as much as 18-million dollars.
