A man accused of going on a deadly stabbing spree in a river in Wisconsin will go to trial today.  Nicolae Miu faces several charges including murder, attempted murder, and battery for the crime that happened in July 2022.  Prosecutors say the 54-year-old defendant got into a confrontation with a group of people who were tubing on the Apple River.  Four adults in that group were hurt and a 17-year-old, identified as Isaac Schuman, died from his injuries.  Jury selection

A man serving time in a Stanley prison is accused of trying to hire someone to kill a prosecutor. Jay Conklin has been in custody since February for sexual assault charges against children. Officers say two inmates reported Conklin had asked them to kill the prosecutor who put him in prison. Law enforcement pretended to be one of the inmates’ cousins on the phone to record a confession. Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles locations will be open longer ahead of the April 2 election. DMV centers will be open until six P-M today and tomorrow. The department says it should give more people access to getting a valid photo I-D, which is required to vote. Voting ID cards are free.

A Minnesota man is behind bars there as the prime suspect in a weekend shooting at a Wisconsin bar. Police say they found a man who’d been shot in the stomach in the parking lot of George’s Lounge in the Town of Buffalo not long after midnight Saturday. Wisconsin’s Office of School Safety is getting another year of funding. Governor Evers on Friday signed a law that extends state support for the OSS through the spring of 2025. Wisconsin’s attorney general opened the Office of School Safety in 2018, they added a 24-hour tip line in 2020.
