Ballot Measure Passes State Senate

Republican lawmakers are getting closer to presenting a ballot measure that would make Wisconsin’s voter ID law part of the state constitution. The proposal passed the state senate in a party-line vote yesterday. The Assembly will likely vote on the measure next Tuesday. If passed, the proposed amendment will go on the ballot in April.

CWD Detected in Chippewa Co. Deer, Public Meeting Planned

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is confirming its first positive case for chronic wasting disease in a wild deer in Chippewa County. According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, it was a one-year-old but harvested by a hunter within ten miles of the Barron and Dunn County borders. Suspect Arrested in Connection to Attempted Homicide

An attempted homicide suspect is now in custody with the Tomah police.  According to authorities, Tomah Officers received information on the whereabouts of David Hintz, who was arrested after being found in a crawl space in a home in Monroe County.  He’s charged with 1st degree intentional homicide, aggravated bodily harms, and other crimes.  Police say this case is related to the case and arrest of Justin Novak, who is also being charged with attempted homicide after a stabbing on

Suspect in Cold Case Pleads Not Guilty

A suspect in a Vernon County cold case is pleading not guilty.  According to records online, 61-year-old Michael Popp of Tomah pleaded not guilty on a 1st degree murder charge.   Court records also show that a status conference has been scheduled for June 9th.  Popp is being charged in the 1985 death of Terry Dolowy.  The victim had been reported missing by her fiancé and authorities found her burning body in a culvert near La Crosse.  Popp’s DNA matched a

“HOWLIDAY” HIT FOR ECPD

Lawmakers Look to Add Voter ID Law to Ballot

Republican state lawmakers are looking to protect Wisconsin’s strict voter ID law through a constitutional amendment.  Yesterday, two GOP-leaning committees voted to move forward with an amendment measure, meaning the state Senate will be able to take a vote on it today.  The proposal will go on the ballot in April if it is approved by the legislature.

EV Chargers Land in Local Stations

Some electric vehicle charging stations that were paid for with federal dollars are opening in Wisconsin.  Chargers at Kwik Trip stations in Ashland, Menomonie, and Chippewa Falls were introduced yesterday.  Nearly a dozen more will be installed across south-central Wisconsin in the near future.  The chargers are being funded through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program.

Radon Reminders

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is warning state residents about the dangers of Radon.  DHS officials say about one in ten Wisconsin homes have high levels of the colorless and odorless gas.  Radon can cause lung cancer if nothing is done to limit exposure.  Health leaders are reminding homeowners and landlords that there are 17 Radon Information Centers offering low-cost test kits across the state.
