Author Ian O’Connor yesterday said his biography on Aaron Rodgers, called ‘Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers,’ will come out on August 13th. Local Artist Takes National Stage

There is now a Wisconsin voice on American Idol. CJ Rislove got his start while singing and playing piano at Chippewa Falls High School. He says the encouragement he received there pushed him into a career in music. Since graduation, he’s been traveling around the country in a converted school bus and singing. His talent and his story landed him a spot on American Idol.

Call to End Race-Based Programs on Campus

There’s a new call for the University of Wisconsin to end race-based programs on campus. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty yesterday asked the UW to end its race-based awards and fellowships. Specifically, WILL says the Board of Regents 2024 Diversity Awards are unconstitutional because they leave-out some students who don’t meet the racial criteria. Woman Sentenced in St. Croix Stabbing

A woman in St. Croix County is sentenced to twelve years in prison for stabbing and killing her fiancé. Marian Kathryn Smith pleaded guilty for the 2022 murder of Shaun Lewis. Detectives say she told them they were fighting over a knife while she was washing the dishes and he was insulting her. He was stabbed in the stomach. After she serves her sentence, Smith will have ten years of supervision.

Deadly Barron County Crash Under Investigation

The Wisconsin State Patrol, Barron County Sheriff’s Office, and Rusk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a semi-tractor-trailer vs SUV crash with injuries on Highway 8 near CTH M. Preliminary evidence from the crash scene indicates the tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Highway 8. An oncoming SUV was traveling westbound when it lost control and crossed the centerline. Gov. Evers Approves Bill, Millions Set for Chippewa Valley Health Care

Tony Evers today approved Senate Bill (SB) 1015, now 2023 Wisconsin Act 97, securing $15 million in crisis response resources to support healthcare access in Western Wisconsin in the wake of the recent announcement of HSHS and Prevea Health’s decision to close several locations. Delay Dismissed, Judge Won’t Stop Chippewa Valley Hospitals Closure

A judge is not going to stop the Chippewa Valley’s hospitals from closing in April. Chippewa Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine asked the judge to stop Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, and St. Joe’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls from closing until at least July.
