It is Election Day in Wisconsin, and voters will see a lot on their ballots. Today is the spring primary election, which means voters will make choices in everything from the presidential primary to their local school board. Trump Plans WI Rally

Former President Trump is coming to Wisconsin to rally. The former president will speak to a crowd in Green Bay later this afternoon. Trump yesterday said he will highlight his plans for a second term, including a much tougher policy on the southern border and what he’s calling ‘immigrant crime.’ The rally will be at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Green Bay, at 5 p.m.

UW Branch Campuses Getting Funding to Shift Classes

Communities that have lost a UW branch campus are getting some state money to make up for it. Governor Evers on Friday signed a new law that allows communities to get up to two million-dollars to help transition away from in-person classes. Richland Center has completely lost its campus and West Bend, Waukesha, and Marinette will see the end of in-person classes next fall. All together there’s 20 million-dollars available.

UW Looks to Expand Family Leave Options

The University of Wisconsin is looking to add a six week paid family program. Regents are expected to consider the plan at their meeting on Thursday. The idea is to provide that paid leave to families who have had a baby, or adopted a new child. There is no word on just how many UW employees would qualify, or just how much the proposal would cost.

Trial Begins for River Stabbing Case

A man accused of going on a deadly stabbing spree in a river in Wisconsin will go to trial today.  Nicolae Miu faces several charges including murder, attempted murder, and battery for the crime that happened in July 2022.  Prosecutors say the 54-year-old defendant got into a confrontation with a group of people who were tubing on the Apple River.  Four adults in that group were hurt and a 17-year-old, identified as Isaac Schuman, died from his injuries.  Jury selection

New Charges for Stanley Inmate

A man serving time in a Stanley prison is accused of trying to hire someone to kill a prosecutor. Jay Conklin has been in custody since February for sexual assault charges against children. Officers say two inmates reported Conklin had asked them to kill the prosecutor who put him in prison. Law enforcement pretended to be one of the inmates’ cousins on the phone to record a confession. DMV Extends Hours Ahead of Primary

Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles locations will be open longer ahead of the April 2 election. DMV centers will be open until six P-M today and tomorrow. The department says it should give more people access to getting a valid photo I-D, which is required to vote. Voting ID cards are free.

Suspect in Custody After High Speed Chase

On Monday, April 1, 2024, at 8:24 a.m., the Polk County Sheriff’s Department reported their deputies were involved in a high speed chase with a stolen truck out of Minnesota headed into Barron County on Hwy 8. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Cumberland Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Department and the WI State Patrol proceeded to the area of the chase.
