Machete Part of Large Group Fight in Arcadia

Multiple people are recovering from injuries suffered in a large-scale fight that happened early Sunday in Arcadia.  Police say a fight involving 20 to 30 people broke out just after 1 a.m. at the Memorial Park Pavilion.  Reports say that one person involved was armed with a machete.  That individual was later arrested.

Missing Boater Recovered from WI River

The body of a man who went missing on the Wisconsin River early this spring is now recovered.  The Wisconsin Dells Police Department says remains belonging to 20-year-old Francesco Di Filippo were recovered in the Newport Beach area yesterday afternoon.  The Chicago man was boating with his grandfather, Luis Di Filippo, and another person when the vessel capsized back on April third.  The third person on the boat was able to swim to shore but Di Filippo and his grandfather

Buffalo Co. Fire Under Investigation

Investigators are working to determine the cause of a destructive fire in Buffalo County.  A trailer and garage were left in ruins Sunday morning after flames ignited at a Pheasant Trail property in Naples.  No one was hurt.

WI High Court Rules in Favor of UW Health

The Wisconsin Supreme Court says UW Health is not required to collectively bargain with its nurses.  Service International Employees Union, the nurses union representation, contested that collective bargaining with the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Authority was required, per the Wisconsin Employment Peace Act.  The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Wisconsin Employee Relations Commission who said it didn’t apply to the UWHCA.  The union said they remain committed to fighting for collective bargaining rights despite the ruling.

Tubers Rescued on Chippewa River

The Eau Claire Fire Department (ECFD) responded to the Chippewa River for a water rescue involving people on floating tubes.  With the use of Fire Department boats, 2 people were rescued and brought to shore near the Lake St bridge. Plans to Reopen St. Joseph’s Hospital Move Forward

Plans to re-open St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls are moving forward and ahead of schedule.  The Chippewa Valley Health Cooperative agreed to purchase the old facility in March, and had 90 days afterward to decide if they wanted to move forward with the purchase.  The co-op members say they will, and have moved the timeline to open the facility in August.  The space will be a temporary location until the co-op opens a state of the art hospital in

Man Sentenced in Bike Path Attacks

A man will spend 17 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman on an Oregon, Wisconsin, bike path.  Richard Cunningham Jr. pleaded guilty to a second-degree sexual assault charge in March as part of a plea deal.  The victim told police he tackled and assaulted her in 2023, and that he may have been smoking at the time.  Investigators were able to use a cigarette butt left at the scene to connect Cunningham to the crime.  One his sentence

Money Set for Literacy Efforts

Wisconsin’s Joint Finance Committee is releasing nine-million-dollars for a state-run literacy coaching program.  The funding is part of a 50-million-dollar package that was approved in 2023, however, it was delayed.  A recent Supreme Court ruling has cleared the way for its release.  Remaining funds will return to the general fund if not approved by Monday.
