Rock River Braces for Flooding

There are more worries about the still-flooded Rock River. Folks who live along the river in several spots, but particularly near Lake Koshkonong, say all of the rain this summer has swollen the river to almost-unmanageable levels. The National Weather Service continues to have a Flood Warning in effect for parts of the river in Jefferson and Rock counties. Forecasters say the river will stay high, and in some spots dangerous, until further notice.

Republican Party Officially Nominates Trump, VP Selected

The Republican Party is officially nominating Donald Trump as its presidential nominee for a third time.  House Speaker Mike Johnson made the announcement during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee today after Trump secured enough delegate votes to win the nomination.    The convention kicked off two days after Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.  Trump, meanwhile, announced Ohio Senator J.D. WI Elder Abuse Hotline Receives Award

The Wisconsin Elder Abuse Hotline is getting national recognition. The Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources says it won the U-S-Aging Achievement Award for the hotline. The USAging awards go to institutions that come up with innovative ways to help older adults, disabled people, and their caregivers.

WI Coastal Communities Set for Grant Money

Wisconsin coastal communities are getting almost one-point-three million dollars in grant money. The Wisconsin Department of Administration Coastal Management Program says 31 grants will go toward economic development and protecting natural resources on the Great Lakes. Recipients were recommended by a governor appointed citizen advisory group.

Crews Respond to Taylor Co. Water Rescue

There was another water rescue in western Wisconsin. Crews in Gilman say they were called to get someone out of the water at the lake near the Miller Dam in Taylor County. Firefighters say the person was tubing when they fell off the tube. They were then pulled by the boat and injured. New Paint Project Rolls Out on UWEC Campus

UW-Eau Claire is partnering with the Defense Department on a new kind of paint. The university said last week that it is working with a company from Oak Creek, Wisconsin on a new kind of paint that better will stand-up to rust. Professor Diedra Gerlach is leading the university’s team, but she says some students will help with the project as well. There is funding involved, but no one is saying just how much will be coming to the university.
