April School Bus Crash Leads to Charges

The Eau Claire school bus driver who crashed on the way to the Twin Cities is being charged for not having the proper license. Prosecutors in St. Croix County yesterday filed charges against Christopher Leubner for unauthorized operation of a school bus. He’d already been ticketed for the crash. Referendum to Address Mental Health in EC Schools

Eau Claire Schools are asking for more money this fall. The city’s school board on Monday approved an 18 million-dollar tax hike request. The money is earmarked for certain programs and safety efforts. The 18 million-dollar request comes after Eau Claire Schools got a nearly 100 million-dollar tax increase in 2022. That money went toward school improvements. The new referendum will add to people’s property tax bills.

Bag of Cash Used to Bribe Juror

A second juror has been let go from Minnesota’s massive COVID fraud case because of a bribe. The juror, only identified as Juror 22, told the court yesterday that they heard about the bribe offered to another juror when they called home this week. That bribe, reportedly 120 thousand-dollars in cash in a bag for an acquittal, was offered to a different juror. That juror reported the bribe, and was excused on Monday. WI Tornado Confirmed

Forecasters are adding another tornado to last month’s twister-count. The National Weather Service yesterday confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down east of Mount Horeb back on May 21st. The twister was part of a storm that swept across southern Wisconsin that day. No one is saying why it took so long to confirm this tornado. Forecasters say the tornado is the 24th to hit Wisconsin so far this year.

Congressman Van Orden Set to Jump

Western Wisconsin’s congressman is ready to parachute into France to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Congressman Derrick Van Orden is one of 10 congressmen who will make the jump that paratroopers made on D-Day. Van Orden arrived in France yesterday, and is set to make the jump tomorrow. Tomorrow marks 80 years since allied forces invaded France in World War Two.

Medford Man Fined for Illegal Hunting

A man will have to pay a fine after illegally shooting a deer with a bow and arrow from his car in Clark County. Cody Hamm from Medford was charged last year for illegal hunting and reached a plea deal on Monday. He’s also accused of intentionally hitting another deer with his car. He’s barred from hunting, fishing, and trapping for three years.
