EC Mom Pleads No Contest in Neglect Case

An Eau Claire mom is waiting to see if she will go to prison for chronic neglect of her three children. Shanta Hill pleaded no contest yesterday to the chronic neglect of her kids, ages six, five, and four-years-old. Investigators say the case is one of the worst cases of neglect they’ve ever seen. Hill is due back in court in two weeks.

Lake Hallie Looks at Administrator Position

Lake Hallie may hire a village administrator. Currently Lake Hallie has a  clerk/treasurer, but Village Board President Gary Spilde says that job will be open by the end of the year and they may change things. Spilde says moving to a village administrator would allow one person to oversee the day-to-day operations in Lake Hallie, as opposed to having to bring-in other people. Spilde says no one has made any final decisions.

Republican lawmakers at the Wisconsin Capitol are talking about more oversight for the state’s prisons. State Senator Howard Marklein, who sits on the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee, yesterday said he wants to see more leadership and more accountability from the Department of Corrections, and Governor Tony Evers. Hunter Safety Program Under Investigation

The student hunter safety program in Mosinee Schools is under review after a teacher brought a non-functioning rifle to school earlier this year. The teacher is still working in the district, and was allowed to bring what essentially was a prop-gun to school in January. Recall Efforts Fall Short

It looks like the plan to recall Wisconsin’s assembly speaker has fallen short, again. The group Wisconsinites for Liberty Fund yesterday said the Racine Recall effort includes thousands of signatures from people who do not live in Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ district. The recall signatures also show that hundreds of people signed several times, and hundreds of other signatures were collected after the state’s deadline. Gov. Evers Urges Prison Investigation

The Wisconsin Governor is asking that the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office keep their investigation into Waupun Correctional Institution open. Governor Tony Evers says he wants the investigation into four inmate deaths — which resulted in nine people being charged, including the former warden — open. Pornography Investigation Leads to Arrest in Barron Co.

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department executed a search warrant at 462 24th St. in Sioux Creek Township. The search warrant comes after a several month long investigation into child pornography. A cell phone inside the residence was located and found to belong to Tony Warner, 51 of Chetek. Authorities Seek Tips in Stabbing Incident

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:46pm, Deputies from the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Village of Fairchild for a stabbing incident involving one male victim and one suspect. Business Owner Pleads Not Guilty

The owner of an Eau Claire beauty shop who is accused of touching his clients says he’s innocent. Chris Devlin pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges yesterday, Investigators say he assaulted clients, and took inappropriate pictures of them while he was working at Renew Aesthetics. Eau Claire Police say six victims have come forward so far. Devlin is due back in court in September.
