WI Sinkhole Blamed on Sewer Failure

The cause of a sinkhole in Eastern Wisconsin has been determined. The Village of Whitefish Bay says a deep storm sewer failed, causing the seventy-foot-deep sinkhole. The hole opened on a walking path between Buckley Park and Big Bay Park. Temporary road closures and park access limitations could be coming as the Village finds a solution for the 90-year-old sewer.

Four University of Wisconsin-River Falls choral ensembles and one university band have been selected as finalists for a prestigious national honor. Four different choral groups led by UW-River Falls Director of Choral Activities Cera Babb, of Hudson, have been chosen as national finalists for The American Prize in Choral Performance. WI Requires Testing Prior to Movement of Lactating Dairy Cattle to Fairs and Exhibitions

In an effort to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) (H5N1) in dairy cattle, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is requiring Influenza A testing prior to movement of lactating dairy cattle to fairs or exhibitions effective beginning June 19, 2024. The Wisconsin Department of Tourism released 2023 economic impact data, showing Eau Claire County tourism experienced a record-breaking 2023, generating $459 million in total economic impact and contributing to Wisconsin tourism’s historic $25 billion economic impact. La Crosse Co. Homicide Under Investigation

One person is dead, and one person is in custody after a homicide in La Crosse County.  The sheriff’s office yesterday said it got a 911 call from the Town of Shelby.  When they arrived, deputies found a woman who was dead.  The sheriff’s office says deputies then arrested 39 year old Zachary Fritz in connection with her death. Chippewa Co. Court Case in Limbo

Lawyers for the now-teenager who’s accused of killing Lily Peters continue to fight to keep his case out of adult court. Both the defense and prosecution have filed their briefs with the appellate court. Number of Injured Grows in Madison Shooting

Madison Police say more people were hurt than first thought in Sunday’s shooting at The Lux. The city’s police department yesterday said 12 people were hurt in the shooting. Officers say 10 people were grazed by bullets, one person was injured by broken glass, and another hurt their shoulder while trying to get away from the gunfire. Gov. Evers Looks to Add Millions to UW

Wisconsin’s governor is telling the state’s university leaders that he wants nearly a billion-dollars more for the UW next year. Governor Tony Evers told UW regents last week that he plans to ask lawmakers for 800-million dollars more for the university. That’d be 400-million in each year of the state’s two-year budget. Evers says the University of Wisconsin is at a “critical junction,” and needs significant investments to prevent “further degradation.” The governor’s request comes after lawmakers agreed earlier this
