The Eau Claire police chief and a city attorney are speaking out against law enforcement agencies dropping off homeless people in Eau Claire without their consent.  Matt Rokus says the practice is “harmful” and “becoming frequently common.”  This comes after the city and county attorneys sent a letter to Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul asking for his opinion on the matter.  Rokus said dropping off people experiencing hardship isn’t in their best interest as he wants to make sure people

Gun Seizures Drop at WI Airports

The Transportation Security Administration is reporting a reduction in gun seizures at Wisconsin airports for last year.  TSA officials say 29 firearms were confiscated from passengers across the state in 2024, as compared to 36 the previous year.  Nearly 67-hundred guns were found on passengers across the country last year, a slight decrease from 2023, according to the agency.  TSA leaders are reminding Americans that they can travel with a gun in their checked baggage but the weapons need to

Man Sentenced in Deadly Crash

A former Chippewa Falls man is being sentenced to jail for a crash in 2021 that killed his wife. Laramie Schemenauer was charged in St. Croix County after the incident.  The charges include homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, reckless homicide, and knowingly operating a vehicle without valid license causing death.  The crash happened along the I-94 after Schemenauer lost control of his vehicle causing it to roll over into opposite lanes of traffic.  His wife, Stephanie, was pronounced

Court Rejects Avery Appeal

The Wisconsin Court of Appeals is again rejecting a filing from convicted killer Steven Avery.  The court issued the ruling on his third appeal request yesterday morning.  Avery’s attorney claims a different suspect killed freelance photographer Teresa Halbach in 2005 then planted evidence on Avery’s property.  The appeals court calls those arguments “speculative”.   Avery’s case got widespread attention after it was featured in the Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer.

Family Fare Supermarket Set to Close

The Family Fare Supermarket in Lake Wissota will soon be permanently closed.  The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development made the announcement on their website.  In a letter, they said the employees will be let go starting March 16th through March 27th.  The closure of the Family Fare Supermarket will affect about 45 employees, including 43 hourly employees and two salaried employees.

Duffy Gets WI Support

Welcome to Giving: Culvers Donates Thousands After Fundraiser

Culver’s is supporting families and educators with Madison’s Abundant Life Christian School as they work to heal from the recent mass shooting.  Dozens of the chain’s restaurants participated in a fundraiser for the ALCS staffers and families earlier this month.  The company says they generated 165-thousand dollars for the school’s recovery fund with the help of customers who placed orders on January sixth.  Five Madison-area Noodles and Company restaurants are also planning to donate 25 percent of their sales to

Changes on Tap, Brothers Look to Buy Back Brewery

Two Leinenkugel brothers are offering to buy back a closed Leinenkugel’s brewery in Chippewa Falls. Molson Coors is rejecting the offer. The company announced the Western Wisconsin brewery would be closing last November, and production will be moved to Milwaukee. The Leinenkugel’s plant is scheduled to close on Friday, with 56 employees affected by the closure. WI Road Weight Limits Set to Change

Heavier weight limits for trucks carrying sand and salt for winter road maintenance will be in place tomorrow across Wisconsin. The frozen road law will be effective statewide starting at midnight.
