Northern zone musky season starts tomorrow in Wisconsin. The state Department of Natural Resources says anglers can catch musky within the northern management zone, which includes inland waters north of U-S Highway 10. The season ends on December 31.

Missing Children Day, New Alert System Highlighted

Tomorrow is Missing Children Day, and the Wisconsin Lottery will contribute to a new alert system. The Lottery says it’ll make missing child alerts, such as Amber Alerts, viewable on all Lottery retail kiosks starting in August. Silver Alerts for missing at-risk adults will also be included.

Area Nonprofits Awarded Grants

The Rusk County Community Foundation (RCCF), a regional affiliate of the Eau Claire Community Foundation announced $8500 in GIVE 365 grants to six area nonprofits. This year’s grant recipients are:– City of Ladysmith: $2000 for ADA Playground/Skatepark Project– Imago Dei Academy: $1085 for Science Equipment– Our Lady of Sorrows Church and School: $1140 for a Hydroponic Grow Tower– School District of Flambeau: $815 for Flexible Workstations– School District of Ladysmith: $1040 for Middle School Trails End Trips– United Cerebral Palsy

Former Wisconsin Guard Leader Passes Away

Retired Maj. Gen. Jerald Slack, Wisconsin’s adjutant general from 1989 to 1996, passed away May 18 following a brief battle with cancer. He was 88 years old. Slack’s 37-year career began in 1959 when he enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard. He transferred to the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1961 and was commissioned a second lieutenant. Memorial Day Weekend Travel Updates, Weather Forecast

Wisconsin’s Department of Transportation and the State Patrol are issuing their usual Memorial Day reminder to pay attention, buckle-up, and slow down. WisDOT is reminding people of on-going road construction across the state. There’s a list of every highway project available at WisDOT’s website. The State Patrol is reminding people that troopers will be out in force this weekend. They will be looking for speeders, drunk drivers, reckless drivers, and anyone who is causing danger on Wisconsin’s interstates and highways.

Crews Respond to Fire in Town of Union

No one was hurt in a fire just west of Eau Claire yesterday. Firefighters say the fire started in a metal shop in the town of Union yesterday afternoon. The flames closed West Cameron Street until fire crews could get things under control. There’s no cause for the fire, though firefighters say there were a lot of things that could have caught on fire inside the shop.

EV Charging Plan Underway in WI

Kwik Trip will be getting a lot of electric chargers as part of Wisconsin’s new EV network. Governor Evers yesterday announced plans to add 53 electric vehicle charging stations across the state, about half of them will be at Kwik Trips. Wisconsin is looking to spend 78 million dollars over the next five years to build a string of EV charges across the state. The idea is to have a charger at least every 50 miles. Planning to Camp? Storm Damage Affects Some State Parks

There is a warning about downed trees and blocked paths at Wisconsin’s state parks. The state’s Department of Natural Resources yesterday said people need to remember this week’s storm damage before they head out to camp or walk the trails this holiday weekend. The DNR says crews have not yet cleared all of the trees, branches, and even downed power lines that fell earlier in the week. Wisconsin is expecting a very busy outdoorsy weekend.
