New Hat in Ring for WI Governor

A second Republican is entering the race for Wisconsin governor.  Bill Berrien a manufacturing executive and former Navy SEAL living in Whitefish Bay, announced his candidacy today.  He says he will focus on creating high-paying jobs, lowering taxes, and supporting law enforcement in Wisconsin if elected. Republican Washington County executive Josh Schoemann launched his campaign in May. Incumbent Democratic Governor Tony Evers is eligible for a third term, but hasn’t announced if he will run again.

Labor Day Tradition Continues: Buckshot Run Takes New Path, Partnership

A Labor Day weekend tradition in Eau Claire is moving forward with help from the L.E. Phillips Career Development Center (CDC).  Recently, CDC formed a partnership with Special Olympics – Eau Claire Adults 3-06 to organize the Buckshot Run and add a new chapter to its decades of history at Eau Claire’s Carson Park. WI Lands in Texas to Lend a Hand

A Menomonie firefighter and his K-9 are among the first responders being dispatched from Wisconsin to help aid in Texas search and recovery efforts.  More than 100 people have died and at least 160 are missing after weekend flooding in the central part of the Lone Star State.  Lieutenant Andrew Kissh and his K-9 named Reaper left for Texas early yesterday as part of Wisconsin Task Force 1.

Double Homicide Suspect Dead

Authorities in Dane County say the suspect in a Middletown double-homicide is dead.  Two people were found deceased Tuesday afternoon at a home on Stonebrook Circle.  According to an update provided by law enforcement last night, the suspect later took his own life following a standoff with officers in Vernon County.

Charges Filed Against EC Teen

Charges are being filed against an Eau Claire teenager accused of trying to acquire machine gun conversion devices.  Authorities say they recently intercepted a package containing implements that can give a regular handgun the ability to fire as a machine gun.  Investigators followed the address on the package to 17-year-old Jayden Cadmus, who they say later demonstrated that he knew about the website from which the devices had been purchased.  Cadmus was arrested and bond was set at five thousand

Fallen WI Officer to be Honored

A procession honoring fallen police officer Kendall Corder will take place Friday.  Corder died after being shot in what authorities called an ambush late last month.  The procession will start at 2:30 p.m. at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield following visitations starting at 11 a.m.  Corder will then be laid to rest at Wisconsin Memorial Park.  The park is expecting between 500 to one-thousand attendees.

The Northern Wisconsin State Fair opens today in Chippewa Falls.  Livestock, agriculture and craft exhibitions will take place during the run of the event along with live music, carnival rides and lots of food options.  Country music artist Montgomery Gentry is tonight’s music headliner.  The fair runs through Sunday. WI Art Attractions on National List

A list ranking the nation’s coolest art installations includes two Wisconsin attractions.  Rivers Wall Art ranked Milwaukee’s Bronze Fonz at 105. Dr. Evermor’s gigantic Forevertron is near Devil’s Lake State Park and sits on the list at 106.  Art lovers were surveyed on sculpture parks, lesser-known installations and displays they’d like to visit. 125 installations were selected for the list.
