ClearSky Health, arehabilitative healthcare provider, has announced plans to build a new36-bed medical rehabilitation hospital in Eau Claire. It will be the organization’s 16th hospitalnationwide and is anticipated to open mid-2026. An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Jackson County. Police say this all unfolded early yesterday morning when officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the Town of Hixton.  The driver allegedly fled and a police chase ensued.  The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop along the 81-hundred block of Sand Prairie Road.  Police say an officer shot the suspect during the encounter, who remains in critical condition. The City of Eau Claire has received a 1.68 million dollar payment as part of the class action settlement with 3M over PFAS contamination.  It’s the first installment of the 9.4 million dollar settlement.  Payments will be made through 2033.

Feed My People will hold its 25th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser later this week in Eau Claire.  The event is aimed at combating food insecurity. The father of the Abundant Life Christian School shooter is out on bail.  Jeffrey Rupnow was arrested last Thursday and charged with providing guns to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a child.  One teacher and one student are dead after the suspect’s daughter, 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, opened fire at the Madison school last December.  Six others were injured, including one student still in critical condition.  Jeffrey Rupnow was held on a 20-thousand dollar bail last week, but

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is issuing a red flag warning for 21 northern counties.  Red flag warnings are issued when weather conditions like hot temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds combine to create a higher fire risk.  Campfires, fireplace ashes, smoking, and outdoor grills can throw sparks, leading to fires that can spread quickly.  Central Wisconsin is in high fire risk.  Far western, south-western, and east-central Wisconsin are in high fire risk, and south-eastern Wisconsin is at moderate

A fifth person is dead after a Milwaukee apartment fire on Mother’s Day.  Four people are critically injured, and hundreds are displaced.  Calls came in reporting the fire at the building on 27th and Highland at about 8 a.m. yesterday.  Some people were trapped in their apartments and were preparing to jump from their windows to avoid the flames and thick smoke.  West Allis and Wauwatosa fire crews helped Milwaukee firefighters extinguish the fire.  Both the State Fire Marshal and

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) students received 470 scholarships and microgrants totaling more than $386,000 throughout the 2024-2025 school year. The students and scholarship donors participated in a CVTC Foundation annual Scholarship Awards Reception to honor the students and donors, Thursday.
