The VP debate is in the books JD Vance says issues about the election should be debated peacefully. During Tuesday’s debate hosted by CBS News, Vance said censorship is a much bigger threat to democracy than anything seen in the last four decades. Tim Walz argued democracy is bigger than winning an election. He said when the election is over, the candidates need to shake hands and try to do everything you can to help the other side be successful.

There are new charges for a registered sex offender in Dunn County. Prosecutors yesterday filed the charges against 40-year-old Nicholas Titus.  Investigators say he invited a 14-year-old neighbor girl over to help him move. Then, they say, he pushed her on to a bed, pulled down her pants, started taking pictures of her, and touching her. Titus is a registered sex offender with past convictions in Minnesota. A judge set his bond at five-thousand-dollars.

Former Packer Eddie Lacy is looking at drunk driving charges in Arizona after police say he was extremely drunk. Officers in Scottsdale arrested Lacy Monday night. They say his blood alcohol level was more than two-point-0, and officers say Lacy had an open bottle in his car. There are no reports that he injured anyone. Lacy played four seasons with the Packers after being drafted back in 2013.

Authorities in Sauk County say they’ve arrested four, and are looking for two more suspects in connection to July’s deadly standoff. All six are being charged with helping a felon escape. The sheriff’s office says each of the six helped Jeffrey Miller escape after he shot at Baraboo Police back in July. He was later found at a house in Portage County where he holed-up. Investigators say Miller later shot himself. The new charges bring the total number of people

Deaf inmates in Wisconsin prison are going to get hearing aids and some other accommodations. The state’s Department of Corrections yesterday announced a settlement with the Justice Department that will have Wisconsin pay for hearing aids for deaf and hard-of-hearing inmates. Deaf inmates will also be allowed to use their hands for sign language, even when they are shackled. The settlement comes after three deaf inmates sued the state for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. The three inmates will

We don’t have many answers about the massive fire at a railroad tie plant in La Crosse County. The fire at the Omaha Track plant on French Island burned almost all day yesterday. It took crews from a half-dozen fire departments to contain, then put-out the blaze. Police told neighbors yesterday that there were no worries about toxic smoke from the fire. The same plant saw a similar fire back in 2015, that fire did prompt warnings about toxic smoke.

Eau Claire is getting 400-thousand dollars to fund healthy trees in lower income neighborhoods. The urban forestry grant is coming from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Through the program, residents will be reimbursed for planting new trees or replacing dead, dying, and diseased trees. This includes trees dying due to Emerald Ash Borers. Applications will be available early next year.     

Two Wisconsin cities are ranked among the top five best small cities to live in nationwide. A new report by WalletHub compares more than 13-hundred small U-S cities based on housing costs, income growth, and average number of hours worked per week. Brookfield, about thirteen miles west of Milwaukee, is ranked second for low unemployment rates and high homeownership rates. Appleton, southwest of Green Bay, is ranked fifth.
