Free Community Health Screenings Offered

Veterans Tribute Foundation Plans Event, Expansion of River Prairie Memorial

Deadly Rusk Co. Fire Under Investigation

 A woman is dead after a weekend house fire in Rusk County. Firefighters say it took them about an hour-and-a-half to put out the fire at the home in Ladysmith. That’s when they found a 35-year-old woman dead inside. Five other people who lived in the home managed to get out, though two of them suffered minor burns. Firefighters are not saying what started the fire as the incident remains under investigation.

Regents Plan to Meet, UW Changes in Future

We are waiting to see what comes from UW regents this week. The regents have a meeting Thursday and Friday in Madison. Regents are being asked to both approve campus closures and layoffs, and hold-off from closing any more branch campuses. Regents approved a tuition increase at their last meeting. The meeting will be the last before University of Wisconsin campuses welcome students back to campuses across the state.

Thompson Takes the Wheel, New Role at UW Madison

Wisconsin’s former transportation secretary is now working at UW Madison. The university on Friday said Craig Thompson is taking over as vice chancellor for university relations. Thompson served as transportation secretary under Governor Evers, he retired earlier this year. Before his job under the governor, Thompson worked at the Wisconsin Counties Association, and several other transportation and government related jobs. Chippewa Falls’ dog show is now 64-years-young. The show was over the weekend at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds. It saw all kinds of dogs competing for the best in show. Indianhead Kennel Club dog show is one of the largest in western Wisconsin, and draws hundreds of dogs each year.

Another WI County Adds Narcan Vending

Add Jefferson County to the list of Wisconsin communities with a Narcan vending machine.  The county’s public health department opened its vending machine over the weekend.  The machine offers Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and other needs for people who are dealing with drug addiction.  The machine is the first in the area and is outside of the county’s health department.  Jefferson County Board of Health Member Jessica Coburn says the vending machines are becoming more common and more accepted because

Packers Get Bucked Off by Broncos

The Packers’ backups got walloped by the Broncos starters last night. Green Bay lost last night, 27-2. The Packers sat their starters, including quarterback Jordan Love. The results were what you’d expect, the offense did very little and the defense was outplayed. Coach Matt LeFluer said he wants to see more ‘fight’ from the team going forward. Green Bay plays its final preseason game this Saturday, then opens the season September 6th against the Eagles in Brazil.
