Nearly a dozen people are displaced after a fire in Chippewa County. The details, as released by Sheriff Hakes, are below: On Tuesday, 02/04/25, at approximately 2:57 AM, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a structure fire at a 12-unit apartment complex located at 8984 Hwy 124 in the Township of Eagle Point. Stabbing Suspect Ordered to Get Evaluation

WI Man Facing Federal Firearms, Conspiracy Charges

A Viroqua man is accused of illegally shipping guns to buyers in Saudi Arabia.  Sixty-year-old Mark Buschman is facing several federal firearms and conspiracy charges.  Investigators say Buschman sold nearly 400-thousand-dollars-worth of guns and gun parts to the overseas purchasers over the last five years.  Many of the firearm components were concealed inside household items like toasters, space heaters, and landscaping power tools when they were shipped, according to officials.

Gov. Evers Makes Splash with PFAS Funding

Governor Tony Evers is sharing plans to expand access to clean drinking water around Wisconsin.  His plans are part of his upcoming 2025-27 Executive Budget, which will be introduced on February 18th.  Earlier this week, he announced that over 145 million-dollars will be invested in addressing PFAS contamination across the state.  The plan involves creating a PFAS Community Grant program to help municipal drinking water systems with testing for PFAS and eliminate them from drinking water.  Two-million-dollars in emergency resources

Chippewa Police Department Warns of Scam

The Chippewa Falls Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam.  They say people are getting calls from someone claiming to be a detective with CFPD.  The scammer will tell the person they called that they’ve missed  a jury duty date and will need to give personal information to fix the situation.  Police said if you receive a call like this to hang up immediately and report the call to CFPD.  Authorities say they’ll never call and request personal

WI DNR Looking to Hire

Suspect in Deadly Stabbing Headed to Evaluation

The man accused of stabbing one victim at the Do Dodge Inn is heading to an inpatient treatment facility. Suspect Anthony Jackson is charged with homicide after prosecutors say he stabbed and killed Alex Graff in December. A judge ordered Jackson be evaluated at an inpatient facility at a competency hearing today. Once his evaluation is finished, another competency hearing will be scheduled.

Plea Deal Reached in Assault Case

An Oklahoma man gets a plea deal in Eau Claire for child sexual assault charges. Prosecutors say 62-year-old Billy Pettit repeatedly assaulted a pre-teen girl in the early 90s when he thought she was sleeping. Pettit is pleading no contest to a misdemeanor charge. He was sentenced to 219 days in jail, but given credit for time served. No additional jail time is ordered.
