Flags are at half-staff in Wisconsin today to honor the burial of a World War Two U-S Army Air Forces Sergeant whose remains have finally been sent home. Sergeant Jack Hohlfeld was raised in LaCrosse and Trempeleau Counties before voluntarily enlisting in the Army. He and the members of his WWII Squadron were overtaken by Japanese Forces in 1941. A deadly pedestrian crash remains under investigation. A little before 9:30p.m. on Sunday,  August 25th a 2021 Nissan was traveling north on Hwy 63 near County Road F in Washburn County, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who was standing in the roadway. The pedestrian was dressed in dark clothing at the time of the crash. The pedestrian was fatally injured as a result of the crash.

You may have heard “It’s not the heat, it’s the goshdarn humidity!” Well, today it will be a bit of both, as it is going to be a dangerously hot day in Eau Claire and the Chippewa Valley. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the entire area that runs from 1 p.m. til 8 p.m tonight. Forecasters say highs will be in the mid-90s, but the heat will make it feel closer to 100 degrees.

The remains of a man who went missing after his boat capsized in the Bay of Green Bay last month have finally been found. The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office said they found Billy Salnik’s body on Green Island over the weekend. Salnik and his two children died when their boat overturned in the bay last month.
