ABOVE PHOTO: In the new B.F.A. in illustration at UW-Stout, students will learn drawing, painting, printmaking, comics and other aspects of art and design. Illustration has been a common thread uniting students in University of Wisconsin-Stout’s School of Art and Design for many years. Now, they can pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration, the first degree of its kind in the Universities of Wisconsin. The program, approved last spring by the UW Board of Regents, gets underway with the fall semester.

Lights Out for Some, Storms Hit Chippewa Valley

Most of the people in Eau Claire who lost power because of last night’s storms have their lights back on. Xcel Energy reported as of 4 a.m. today that just under 700 people were without power. EC City Council to Vote on Campaign Spending

Eau Claire’s city council supports limits on federal campaign spending. The council will vote tonight on an advisory resolution to support a constitutional amendment that would essentially undo the Citizens United decision. That’s the decision that allows companies to spend money on political campaigns just like labor unions or rich people. WI Lawmakers Update PFAS Rules

Wisconsin’s governor wants to update the rules for PFAS contamination in the state’s drinking water. Governor Tony Evers and the Department of Natural Resources this month introduced an update for the state’s clean water standards. The update brings Wisconsin in-line with the federal rules for PFAS, plus adds three new chemicals to the list of PFAS chemicals that would be regulated. The Wisconsin Supreme Court will not keep the Green Party off the ballot this November. The court yesterday rejected a request from the Democratic National Committee to block the Green Party. Democrats said the Greens couldn’t run Jill Stein for president because the party doesn’t have any elected officials in Wisconsin. WI Hero’s Make a Splash

A pair of western Wisconsin lifeguards are being hailed as heroes. Henry Meek and Bella Rowan say their training took over when they saw a boy under the water at the Hoffman Aquatic Center last week. They pulled the boy out, and Rowan started CPR. The boy came-to just as paramedics arrived. Pool managers say they are extremely proud of the two, and say the situation shows just how important it is to have lifeguards.

Sunflowers Shine Bright for Joshua’s Camp

A sunflower maze in Eau Claire County will be open this weekend to raise money for local families. Jaquish Farms is also hosting tractor rides and tours. The farm will be only be open next Saturday and Sunday, since sunflowers are only in bloom for a short time. Flags Lowered to Honor Fallen Sergeant

Flags are at half-staff in Wisconsin today to honor the burial of a World War Two U-S Army Air Forces Sergeant whose remains have finally been sent home. Sergeant Jack Hohlfeld was raised in LaCrosse and Trempeleau Counties before voluntarily enlisting in the Army. He and the members of his WWII Squadron were overtaken by Japanese Forces in 1941. Sergeant Hohlfeld was taken to a prisoner of war camp died about one year later. His remains were identified in May,
