Police in Whitewater, Wisconsin are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a student who was a college gymnastics national champion.  The body of 21-year-old University of Wisconsin-Whitewater student Kara Welsh was found with multiple gunshot wounds in an apartment near the campus shortly before midnight on Friday.  Investigators believe she was shot following an altercation with a 23-year-old man who was also in the apartment and was taken into custody.  Police did not release the suspect’s identity and

The Eau Claire Fire Department responded to a structure fire Saturday afternoon on the North side. Engine 10 and Medic 10 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the basement of the residence. An aggressive interior fire attack was initiated and the fire was quickly located and extinguished while additional crews performed searches and ventilated smoke in the basement. Fire damage was contained to the basement but the entire structure sustained smoke damage. No injuries were reported at the time

Eau Claire Police Investigate Homicide On August 29, 2024, at 6:29 PM, Eau Claire Police Officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Gilbert Avenue for a check welfare. Upon arrival, Officers located a deceased female. It was determined she sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Members of the Eau Claire Police Department processed the crime scene and collected evidence with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol. Hunting seasons for six different species will open in Wisconsin over the weekend. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says early Canada goose, early teal, mourning dove, rail, snipe, and common gallinule seasons will open on Sunday. The Canada goose bag limit has increased to five birds per day, and the population in Wisconsin is about forty percent higher than the long-term average.

A lottery ticket worth two-million dollars was sold in Bristol, in Southeastern Wisconsin. The Powerball ticket was purchased at the BP on 93 Street, and won during Wednesday night’s drawing. The ticket matched all five winning numbers, but not the Powerball number. Within the past year, the store sold a winning Badger 5 ticket worth 18-thousand dollars, and a 50-thousand dollar Powerball ticket.
