An Eau ClaireCity Council member is taking the recent support for pot as a sign to reduce the penalties. Andrew Werthmann wants the fine for marijuana possession in the city reduced to one dollar.  Andrew Werthmann is the Acting City Council President and says the county’s response to an advisory referendum sent a clear message that people want to decriminalize small possession of pot.  Eau Claire County was one of 16 counties to vote on the referendum gauging public opinion

GERRYMANDERING ARGUMENTS CONTINUE POST MIDTERM ELECTION

A group suing over the fairness of legislative maps says the midterm election results strengthen their case against partisan gerrymandering.  The Fair Elections Project organized and launched a lawsuit challenging Wisconsin’s election map as unconstitutional partisan gerrymandering,saying the maps are rigged to create a Republican majority in the legislature.  Assembly Speaker Robin Vos disagreed, saying that it is a made up issue.

VETERANS CAN SOAR INTO EAGLE CENTER FOR FREE

Beginning on November 10th, all veterans and active duty members of the military will receive complimentary admission to the National Eagle Center in observance of Veterans Day. VETS HONORED IN LOCAL PROGRAM

Chippewa Manor isthanking veterans with a special program.  The ceremony yesterday alsoincluded a tribute to the pilots who do missing man flyovers for the annualevent.  Residents watched a short documentary about the five pilots on theflyover squad called Why We Fly as part of the event.

SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING EC MAN

 A search is underway for a missing Eau Claire man.  Police say James Liedtke was last seen early Sunday after being out with friends Saturday night.  His phone records indicate activity around 8:30 Sunday night, but the nature of that activity, whether a call or text message, is not known as the phone battery is either dead or the phone is turned off.  Police have been searching near the eleven-hundred-block of Menomonie Street near the Chippewa River because GPS coordinates

PEDESTRIAN KILLED IN WAUSAU

Police in Wausau are investigating a deadly crash involving an elderly man walking through an intersection. Authorities say the 92-year-old victim was hit by a car shortly after 5:00 last evening at North 6th Street and Park and died at the hospital.  The driver is cooperating with police.  Wausau police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.

OVER 30 DEER POACHED IN PRICE CO.

An investigation is underway in Price County after more than 30 deer were found illegally killed.  The Department of Natural Resources has interviewed over a dozen people they believe are linked to the poaching.  The DNR also says there are people who intentionally hit deer at night with their vehicles as a method of poaching.

FLAGS HONOR VICTIMS OF CALIFORNIA SHOOTING

Wisconsin flags are flying at half-mast as a mark of respect for the victims in the Thousand Oaks, California shooting.  President Trump today ordered all U.S. flags lowered at federal facilities through Saturday at sunset. Last night’s killing at a bar and grill claimed the lives of 13 people,including the shooter, who took his own life.

WI NATIVE TO BE APPROVED FOR BEATIFICATION

A native of Wisconsin is being approved by Pope Francis for beatification.  The Vatican announced today that Brother James Miller, who was martyred in Guatemala at the age of 37, killed in “hatred of faith.”  Brother Miller was born near Stevens Point and was shot to death in 1982 by three hooded men while he was on a ladder repairing a wall at a school.  Beatification is a step towards canonization.

It might be “Lucky” Eddies soon…as Eddie’s Convenience Store ison the list of winning locations.   John Duller of Sparta matchedall five numbers in the Badger 5 drawing on Monday, November 5to win the night’s $136,000 jackpot.  Not only did Eddie’s sell thewinning ticket on Monday night, it also sold a $50,000 winning Powerball ticketon Halloween as well.   Eddie’s Convenience Store is located on Highway 21 East inSparta.
