FINALE GETS CLOSER FOR KROEZE

Chris Kroeze is performing in the top ten of NBC’s The Voice tonight.  The Barron native performed Long Train Runnin’ by the Doobie Brothers last week and got enough votes to escape elimination.  Kroeze will perform at seven o’clock tonight with the rest of the top ten.  He only needs to advance two more weeks to make it to the finale.

MENOMONIE CRASH KILLS ONE

On December 3, 2018 Wisconsin State Patrol Troopers responded to a 2 vehicle crash on Hwy 25 .25 miles north of 420th Street. A south bound vehicle had crossed over into oncoming traffic and was struck by a northbound pickup. Road conditions are believed to be a mitigating factor for the crash. Wisconsin State Patrol was assisted by Menomonie Fire and EMS as well as Dunn County Sheriff’s Office. Names are being withheld at this time while the crash remains

WEEK LONG CELEBRATION OF LIFE BEGINS TODAY

Flags are being flown at half-staff around the state of Wisconsin following the death of former President George H.W. Bush.  The 41st President of the United State passed away Friday, about eight months after the death of his wife Barbara Bush.  Governor Scott Walker said the flags will be flown at half-staff through December 30th.   The 43rd President, George W. PACKERS THROW THE FLAG ON MCCARTHY

Mike McCarthy is out, and Green Bay is looking for a new coach. Packers’ team president Mark Murphy released a statement after the Packers’20-17 loss to Arizona yesterday that the team is ‘relieving’ McCarthy of his duties immediately.  Murphy says the 2018 season has not lived-up to expectations.  Defensive coordinator Joe Philbin will step in as interim coach.

LAME DUCK MONDAY

Wisconsin’s governor-to-be says he doesn’t see what Republicans are so afraid of.  Governor-elect Tony Evers on Friday said he thinks Republicans in Madison are trying to erase his win last month with this week’s lame duck session.  Lawmakers last week announced an agenda for their return to the Capitol that includes moving the 2020 primary election, limiting early voting in the state, and forcing Evers to get permission before banning guns from the statehouse.  Lame duck session begins this afternoon.

TINSEL AND TIDINGS SUPPORTS MIGHTY MADDY’S MISSION

A Christmas celebration is supporting children battling cancer.  The first ever Tinsel and Tidings event included cookie decorating, ornament making, and a decorated Christmas tree raffle.  All funds raised went to Mighty Maddy’s Mission,an organization that provides children fighting cancer with birthday parties in the hospital, presents on treatment days, and orientation baskets for families after their child is diagnosed.  The group is names after Madelyn Odegard,who lost her fight with cancer in August 2017.

HSHS SACRED HEARTS LIGHTS UP HEARTS

Volunteer Partners of HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital are sponsoring the 33rd annual Love-Light Christmas Tree.  The organization held an outdoor lighting ceremony last night at the hospital.  For a ten dollar donation, individuals can memorialize a loved one or honor a relative by reserving a light on the tree.  White lights represent a deceased adult, blue lights are for a deceased child, and red and green ones are for a living relative or friend.  Gold lights are reserved for veterans

UW AIMS TO SAVE STUDENTS SOME BUCKy’S

Some lucky bucky’s as a change should save students some bucks. Madison College is implementing a new textbook rental program. Starting in 2019, students will pay no more than seven-dollars per credit to rent the books they need at no extra charge for the semester.  So for example, if a student takes 12 credits,they will pay 84-dollars for books.  Some students have expressed relief over the new program saying they will actually be able to eat more regularly now that
