STRATFORD REPORTS VOTING IRREGULARITIES

There WERE some voting irregularities reported in the village of Stratford.  The town clerk says the first 54 voters were given the wrong ballot today, which didn’t have the correct legislative race because of a printing issue.  The clerk says most of the voters have been contacted to come in to re-vote.  The Wisconsin Elections Commission WAS aware of the problem.

BOND REDUCED FOR MURDER SUSPECT

The man charged with the 1975 murder of his wife in Door County is having his bond reduced in half.  Richard Pierce is charged with killing his wife Carol Jean, even though her body has never been found.  Following her disappearance from Door County, Pierce moved to Michigan where he was arrested last month for her murder.  Pierce was being held on a one-million-dollar cash bond, which  was reduced to 500-thousand-dollars today.

LESS GOLD FOR POSSESSION OF GREEN IN GREEN BAY

The penalties are being reduced in Green Bay for pot possession.  The city council voted yesterday to decrease the penalty for anyone caught with an ounce of pot or less.  The maximum possible fine has been lowered from one-thousand-dollars to 500-dollars.

ROLLOVER ACCIDENT KILLS ONE

One person is dead after a rollover crash involving two vehicles in Bruce.  Police say two vehicles collided head-on on Saturday afternoon on U.S. 8 causing one to roll and eject the driver.  That driver was pronounced dead in the hospital.  The other driver has been released but is in custody on suspicion of drunk driving.

150 ANIMALS RESCUED; HUMANE SOCIETY SEEKS HELP

Animal rescuers in Washington County are asking for help after pulling nearly 150 animals out of a local woman’s home.  Most of the animals were guinea pigs and rabbits, but rescuers also found 13 quail as well as mice, rats, and dogs.  The woman is facing a series of tickets for having too many animals and not having the proper permits.  Washington County’s Humane Society is asking for donations to care for the animals until they can offer them for

EC MAN FILLS TANK WITH CHARGES AFTER GAS SKIPS

An Eau Claire man is facing multiple criminal charges after being accused of driving off without paying for his gas several times.  Police say 18-year-old Ethan McEvoy was charged with six counts of misdemeanor retail theft yesterday after officers investigated a slew of gas drive-offs in Eau Claire County and found the cars involved belonged to him.  McEvoy is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Thursday.

EC SCHOOL BOARD EXPANDS SESSIONS ON REZONING ROOSEVELT

The Eau Claire School Board is expanding its listening sessions on rezoning Roosevelt Elementary to other schools in the district.  The board was initially considering turning Roosevelt into a 4K school but is now looking at other options after a meeting yesterday.  Parents in the district expressed concern that their kids would be forced out of  the schools that they grew up in, so the board is scheduling more listening sessions to discuss other possibilities.

DUNN COUNTY PEDDLING OPEN HOUSE FOR BIKERS

Dunn County is holding an open house to get feedback on its bike and pedestrian route plan.  County staff is expected to give a presentation on how the routes will connect to routes in other counties.  After that, planning commission staff will answer questions and give feedback.  The open house is next Monday at 5:00 p.m. at the community services building in Menomonie.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS PLANNED FOR VICTIMS

Funeral arrangements are being set for the victims of a Lake Hallie hit-and-run crash.  Ten-year-old Haylee Hickle’s funeral will be held Thursday at the Chippewa Valley Bible Church in Chippewa Falls.  Hickle’s mother, 32-year-old Sara Schneider’s funeral will be held in concert with Haylee’s.  The funeral for nine-year-old Jayna Kelley will be held Friday at Chippewa Valley Bible Church Ten-year-old Autumn Helgeson’s funeral will be held Thursday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.
