KEEP THE WREATH GREEN KICKS OFF

The Chippewa Valley Keep the Wreath Green Campaign is underway.  The goal of the campaign is to bring awareness to holiday fires.  A wreath with green lights is hanging outside the Dewey Street fire station and will be up between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  If the Eau Claire, Altoona, or Township Fire Departments respond to a structure fire, one of the lights on the wreath gets switched to red.

EC COUNCIL TO VOTE ON CARBON FEE

The Eau Claire City Council is considering drafting a resolution urging Congress to levy a carbon fee.  The resolution would call on Congress to recognize the evidence of climate change and to adopt a revenue-neutral fee on some fossil fuels.  A public hearing on the resolution will be held Monday, with a vote on Tuesday.

DRYER DISPLACES FAMILIES

Four families are displaced after a reported dryer fire.  The fire broke out Wednesday evening in the 600 block of Dutchman Drive at a four-plex apartment building.  Everyone was out of the building when crews arrived.  There were no reported injuries.

TURKEY TROTTERS HIT RECORD NUMBERS

Eau Claire’s Turkey Trot is a source of fun and inspiration and this year was no exception.  Runners of all ability levels tackled the five mile run, two mile fun run, and two mile walk, along with dog jog at yesterday’s event.  Many reached personal time and fitness goals.  Ten Turkey Trots were held in Wisconsin and brought out a record number of participants at over 30-thousand.

FOXCONN CON?

 Governor-elect Tony Evers says he is concerned about a Bloomberg report regarding Foxconn’s intention to eliminate staff and cut costs.  Bloomberg says the company wants to cut nearly three-billion-dollars in expenses and eliminate ten-percent of non- technical staff.   Foxconn officials say it was a very difficult and competitive year.  Evers tells WKOW-TV that he understands businesses have to make tough decisions, but it’s concerning to him that even before things get rolling in Wisconsin, they seem to be cutting back in

LOCAL THANKSGIVING FEASTS AND EVENTS

Trinity Lutheran Church and Hope Gospel Mission are both set up for the Thanksgiving dinners they are hosting for the public.  Over 100 volunteers at each organization set up yesterday for today’s events.  Trinity’s event also includes kids’ activities and a TV to watch football. They expect around 500 people, while Hope Gospel Mission is planning to dish up 300 meals.  And I would like to wish you and yours a VERY special day and the happiest of Thanksgiving’s. Enjoy.

POP UP PANTRY POPS UP

A pop-up pantry is helping people leading into the holiday season.  Feed My People Food Bank sponsored the pantry yesterday, which stocked basic grocery items, fresh produce, and non-food items like diapers, toothpaste, and toilet paper.  Working families, seniors, and others in need were able to shop the pantry to meet their needs.

WOMAN ACCUSED OF EMBEZZLEMENT FROM HUMANE ASSOCIATION

An Eau Claire woman is facing charges, accused of embezzlement from the Humane Association.  Nicolle Wilson is charged with five felony counts connected with theft and fraud against a financial institution.  A criminal complaint filed says Wilson tried to cash a check for 60-thousand dollars at an Eau Claire credit union.  She was the Humane Association’s bookkeeper from May to September of this year.
