Menomonie Schools are looking to add a second youth services officer.  T he expenses will exceed the funds allocated from a school safety grant so the district is teaming up with the City of Menomonie.  The School District is gearing up to spend their 170-thousand dollar safety grant to offer more training and update materials and processes to ensure the students stay safe.

Wahh…wahhh…wahhhhater ban! We’re back at it Altoona. The City is ordering a new ban on watering lawns-there are some ongoing difficulties with repairing an existing well, which means watering will only be allowed on alternating sides of the street based on the date.  Not quite sure how long THIS ban will be in place, but just a heads up on that before Mother Nature decides to pitch in with some rain later this week.

Back to it! A major company is resuming excavation work in Sun Prairie for the first time since a deadly natural gas explosion. City officials are confident safety measures will prevent any further explosions. The explosion earlier this month killed 34-year-old Sun Prairie Fire Captain Cory Barr, severely injured firefighter Ryan Welch, and destroyed nearly half a dozen buildings and damaged others. Bringing a national headline local, two companies that operate duck boats in Wisconsin Dells are facing safety questions after a duck boat capsized in severe weather in Branson, Missouri, killing 17 last week. Nextdoor is opening the door of communication with the community as Eau Claire Police are using the new online resource to connect. Nextdoor is a free social networking platform and specific officers will use it to answer neighborhood questions and relay information to community members. Now, this won’t replace traditional crime reporting, but will be used as a way to get information out to the public in particular neighborhoods without waiting for a meeting. We have an update from Sun Prairie as state records say the contractor that struck a gas line in the downtown causing a leak that led to an explosion that leveled a city block wasn’t registered to do business in Wisconsin. The Michigan-based VC Tech was hired by a Kansas-based company to help install new fiber optic cable lines in the Madison suburb. It’s not clear if the Michigan company had to be registered to work as a subcontractor.

There was some action with the blue and red lights on I-94 last night and it ended with multiple arrests. WEAU 13 News reports the incident began around 4:30 p.m. yesterday in Lake Hallie, which then led officers on a chase that ended on I-94 near Foster. According to the Lake Hallie Police Department, the incident started as a theft case when people left the scene. Multiple agencies are investigating.
