DOWNtown is right on schedule to open UP! Sounds like everything is on pace to open in September. The pedestrian foot bridge spanning the Eau Claire River is in place and the new wall along the river is almost finished.  The Pablo Center at the Confluence is nearly set to move in-start shopping for your fancy outfits now! The grand opening for the center is set for September 22nd.

A fire that destroyed a popular bar and bowling alley in Friendship is under investigation. Fire crews were called just after one o’clock Monday to the Friendship Bar and Bowl in the Village of Friendship.  A portion of Highway 13 was closed while crews battled the blaze.  Nearly 40 firefighters responded to the scene, where the building is considered a total loss, but there were no injuries.

Notebooks, folders, pencil boxes, and ….safety grants? Add that to the Back to School list as State AG Brad Schimel is handing out more school safety grants for area schools and was in our area and halls yesterday at Northstar Middle School announcing grants for the Eau Claire Area School District and Regis Catholic Schools. He says the goal of the grants is to prevent incidents from happening at schools and to get kids help sooner when they do.  State

Over a dozen workers were treated at a Wisconsin hospital after an ammonia leak. It happened early yesterday (Sunday) morning at a Birds Eye food plant in Darien, which is about an hour southwest of Milwaukee. 15 employees had to be taken to the hospital while 75 others were evaluated outside of the plant.  Reps say the Environmental Protection Agency and OSHA have both been notified-and they are continuing to investigate.

Governor Scott Walker visited a couple of spots in our state over the weekend-including near us.  Walker participated in the kickoff of the Hmong Festival in Wausau and also celebrated a milestone in his campaign in Chippewa Falls, where he made the one-millionth voter contact phone call for his current campaign. A new poll shows Walker trails Democratic primary front-runner Tony Evers, 54 to 41 percent right now.

There was some SEEDY activity in Chapman Park recently…and it was a GOOD thing! Hundreds of people came out to Chapman Park for the annual Watermelon Fest Saturday. The event also included a flea market and car show along with free watermelon. The Stanley Lions Club puts the funds raised from the festival back into community projects. Which reminds me…. Q: Why do watermelons have fancy weddings? A: Because they cantaloupe.

Area construction companies are learning more about the Foxconn project. A second informational session happened yesterday afternoon at CVTC in Eau Claire.  Officials talked with construction-related companies about becoming a vendor, subcontractor, supplier, or professional service provider for the manufacturing campus in Racine County.

And so it FLOWS….back to the sprinklers and lawn watering in Altoona. Water restrictions put on the City’s water customers are now lifted.  A problem with a Well in the city triggered the restrictions Monday. ..but all is back to normal now. And the kiddos can return to splash mode in River Prairie.
