FAMILY PROMISE EXPANDS

A Family Promise affiliate is one step closer to opening in Monroe County thanks to a donation by the Mayo Clinic.  Yesterday, Mayo donated ten-thousand-dollars to the organization which is hoping to start reaching families in need by the end of next year.  Once it opens, Family Promise of Monroe County will be the 12th affiliate to open in Wisconsin.

TICK TOCK….

Tonight’s the night when all of Wisconsin will find out if one their own gets crowned as this season’s The Voice.  Barron native Chris Kroeze performed three songs on The Voice last night including Sweet Home Alabama, Two More Bottles of Wine,and an original song written for him called Human.  Afterwards, his coach Blake Shelton said he’s one of those guys that you just can’t help but love.  Kroeze will learn his fate on tonight’s finale at 7:00 on NBC.

HOUSE WATCH PROGRAM FOR UWEC

The Eau Claire Police Department is working to keep student housing safe during the holidays.  Officials say UW-Eau Claire students can sign up for the free House Watch Program, leaving a description of what lights should be on in the house. Officers will drive by the homes when they have time to make sure the house matches the description.  The homes become easy targets for burglars while students are away on break.

SANTA GIVES TO THE CLAWS

Markquart dealerships are announcing the first winner of Markquart Gives Back 2018. The Eau Claire County Humane Association will receive a ten thousand dollar gift from the dealerships.  Community voting was held from mid November until Friday choosing residents’ favorite organizations.  The top five organizations will each receive a ten thousand dollar gift from the dealerships.

SPECIAL GIFTS FOR SPECIAL KIDS

Local organizations in Eau Claire are working together to help give children and families in need special gifts during the holiday season.  DeLong Middle School’s Student Council and the Eau Claire Area School District administration building staff met yesterday to wrap gifts purchased by the staff.  Staff members then delivered the gifts that will meet the needs of 14 families to the Children’s Hospital Community Services building.

BARABOO ACTS ON RECENT CONTROVERSY

 Baraboo Acts is calling for personal growth.  Dozens filled the seats of Al Ringling Theater to hear a message last night that included a list of action steps the city and school district is taking to address a controversial photo showing a group of high school boys making what appeared to be a Nazi salute.  Some of the steps include enhanced Holocaust education, further community discussions, and today’s Thunderbird Day of Peace assembly.

UW WHITEWATER SEARCHING FOR NEW CHANCELLOR

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will be soon searching for a new Chancellor.  Beverly Kopper announced today she is resigning at the end of the year.  Kopper says she is proud of the record high retention and graduation rates, which are both above the national average.  Kopper was recently denied a raise after her husband, who held an honorary position, was banned from the campus for sexually harassing female employees.

MARSHFIELD CAR CRASH LEAVES ONE WOMAN DEAD

A woman killed in a Fond du Lac County car crash is identified as a Malone resident. Authorities say Macnelli Martinez was driving on County Highway G in Marshfield over the weekend when her car left the roadway.  She apparently over-corrected and then crashed into a pickup truck.  The driver of the pickup suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while Martinez died at the scene.

SEX OFFENDER RELEASED; RESIDENCE IN WHEELER

Dunn County Authorities would like to inform the public of a sex offender being released into our community this week. 33 year old Jamie Stephenson will be released on Supervised Release.  His charges include: 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, , 2nd Degree Sexual Misconduct-Sexual Contact under age 13/ more than 36 months age difference, and 4th Degree Sexual Assault-Two Counts. Release Date: On 12/20/2018, Mr. Stephenson will be residing N11311 570th Street in Wheeler.

OSHKOSH SANTA INVESTIGATED FOR ASSAULT

Police in Oshkosh are asking parents who took their kids to see Santa at the local YMCA to come forward if they think he may have sexually assaulted their children.  Officers arrested 75-year-old B.T. Adams last week.  They say they caught him on video abusing a three-year-old girl, but they think there may be more victims.  Adams worked as a volunteer at the Y in Oshkosh,including a stint as Santa.  Investigators say more than a dozen parents have come forward
