Xcel Energy recently announced that construction of the second Solar Connect Community project is underway. The solar garden, part of Wisconsin’s largest community solar garden program, is being built on about seven-acres of land near Highway 33 just west of Cashton. Patrick and Rhonda Woods were reportedly undergoing divorce proceedings when they were found dead back on December 12th. An indictment claims 23-year-old Emmanuel Hunt was caught with at least one loaded nine millimeter pistol on November 22nd and on December 5th. He’s charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and faces a maximum of ten years in federal prison on each count.

The nonpartisan Wisconsin Policy Forum says state and local taxes are at ten-and-a-half percent of personal income which is the lowest since it began compiling numbers in 1970. The La Crosse Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department says the nearly two-mile trail and loop in the southeastern portion of the of the forest is shutting down for maintenance. Read MoreAuthorities are releasing the names of those involved in a deadly crash in Chippewa County. Deputies say 72-year-old Glen Winge died in the crash that happened in the Town of Wheaton near Chippewa Falls on County Road T. Authorities say Winge was going north on T when he crossed the center line and hit a pickup. Officials say 54-year-old Randy Mcinnis was driving the pickup and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The field was temporarily closed last night after someone threw a football during adult flag football league and accidentally hit a water pipe, causing it to burst. The turf was flooded and the center was temporarily closed. Volleyball and gymnastics were later able to resume.

The Children’s Nature Academy received a grant through the federal “Child Care Means Parents in School” program. The nearly 40-thousand dollar grant will help support students who are parents of infants and toddlers. The director of the children’s academy says students who receive Pell Grants are eligible to participate in the program.
