A baker from Stoddard is the newest Food Network Holiday Baking Champion.  Meringue Bakery owner Jennifer Barney won last year’s baking championship but was randomly paired with another baker this year to take on four other past champions to decide the ultimate holiday baking champion.  Barney and her partner Jordan Pilarski won both of their heats and took home the top prize, splitting ten-thousand dollars.  Barney is next looking to move her bakery from her home to a shop in

Patients at an Eau Claire hospital are feeling the holiday spirit after getting a visit from volunteers on Christmas Eve.  WEAU says there were nearly 100 patients at HSHS Sacred Heart who couldn’t go home for Christmas, but some volunteers made sure to keep them company.  They came around to every patient and gave them an ornament and spent time with them.  One volunteer said he just wanted the patients to know people were thinking about them. 

A 19-year-old Eau Claire man is facing a charge of driving under the influence of marijuana.  Two minors were in the vehicle early Monday morning when police pulled over Mitchell Nunke for speeding along Hastings Way near the intersection with Galloway Street.  The officer noticed an odor of marijuana and arrested Nunke on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated with a passenger younger than 16 in the vehicle.  He was also charged with marijuana possession and speeding. 

More than 100 people are receiving a stuffed stocking with their Meals on Wheels delivery thanks to volunteers.  Telephone Pioneers took over for Meals on Wheels employees over the weekend to help prepare meals and stockings for those in need at Christmas time.  The meals and stockings were delivered Christmas Eve to elderly and disable individuals in the Eau Claire and Fall Creek area. 

A Chippewa Valley nonprofit is opening a retail store in the new corporate facility in Colfax.  Our Communities Deliver held a soft opening Friday and Saturday after receiving more than 14-hundred donations in a week and a half.  The organization serves anyone who is hungry, homeless, or unemployed. 

The Chippewa Falls Police Department is providing a gift to drivers this Christmas.  The department has suspended parking enforcement from December 21st through this morning.  The department posted a notice on Facebook announcing the parking holiday, saying there was a low probability of a snow event and a large number of expected out of town guests. 

The Legacy Community Center is providing for the needs of those in the Chippewa Falls community this holiday season.  The center provides coordinated intake services and referrals for individuals and families in need.  The food and clothing closets have also been available to anyone in the community needing resources. Agnes’ Table is also located at the center and provides nutritious meals for community members.  

 Outgoing Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is warning of a political “unraveling” in Washington.  The Wisconsin Representative delivered his farewell address yesterday at the Library of Congress.  Ryan said outrage has become “the meaning from our politics.”  Ryan is retiring from Congress at the end of the year.

As children across the state wait patiently for Christmas Eve, Governor Scott Walker is directing the Wisconsin National Guard and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) to be ready to assist Santa Claus as he delivers presents to all the good boys and girls across Wisconsin. According to the secret Operation Santa Plan, a KC-135 Stratotanker from the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 128th Air Refueling Wing in Milwaukee will link up with Santa in the skies over Lake Superior, providing carrots, reindeer
