CURBSIDE PICKUP FOR CHRISTMAS TREES COMING TO LACROSSE

The City of La Crosse is beginning its curbside Christmas tree pickup on January 7th.  Residents are being asked to take all decorations off of their live Christmas trees and have them on the curb by 7:00 a.m. any day that week.  The tree pick up times will not coincide with normal garbage pickup times.

WINTER WEATHER HERE

Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls are two of many cities in the path of a winter storm.  Snow is expected to taper off some this morning with light freezing drizzle possible.  Accumulations through tomorrow morning should be between two and four inches.  Slippery road conditions and limited visibility are expected.

BUCKY SUITS UP FOR PINSTRIPE BOWL

The Wisconsin Badgers are meeting the Miami Hurricanes today in the Pinstripe Bowl.  The game is being held at Yankee Stadium, where the Hurricanes are favored to win by three.  UW defeated Miami in their last meeting at the 2017 Orange Bowl.

COMPLAINTS FILED IN SUN PRAIRIE EXPLOSION

State utility regulators are being asked to weigh possible penalties against the drilling company involved in the deadly Sun Prairie natural gas explosion.  A complaint was filed by USIC Locating Services, the company hired to mark the locations of underground pipes before last summer’s explosion.  USIC claims the drilling company violated state law by not notifying the state utility call center before starting work.  The blast killed one firefighter and injured others.  The drilling company could face up to 500-thousand

TREE-CYCLING THAT HOLIDAY SPRUCE

The City of Eau Claire and Boxx Sanitation are sponsoring a Christmas tree recycling program.  Residents can drop off trees until January 31st at the Jeffers Road brush site for free.  The effort is part of the Merry Mulch program that turns old Christmas trees into mulch for people in the spring.

SHOPPERS BAG POST-CHRISTMAS DEALS

Eau Claire shoppers are out in force looking for good deals.  Stores were busy yesterday with customers returning holiday gifts and grabbing discounted Christmas items.  Shoppers at Target were especially stocking up on wrapping paper and wreaths.  Experienced shoppers said there were good deals on non-Christmas items as well.

LOCAL KNITTER HAS NEW BABIES COVERED

An Eau Claire woman is a busy knitter, stitching nearly 600 hats for newborns this year.  Volunteer Janice Ray says it takes her about three hours to knit a baby hat.  She has logged about three-thousand hours knitting this year.  Ray began her efforts in 2011 when she was recruited at church by a volunteer knitting coordinator at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.  Though she has never seen a newborn in one of her hats, a doctor at

MORNING ROBBERY UNDER INSTIGATION IN EC

Eau Claire County police are on the lookout for three people who broke into a gas station this morning.  The county sheriff’s office says the group broke into the Phillips 66 on Clairemont Avenue and Cameron Street as the clerk was opening.  Police aren’t sure what was taken.  They’re currently reviewing security footage to identify the suspects.

SNOW STORM EXPECTED TO HIT OUR AREA TONIGHT

Some heavy snow could move into west central Wisconsin this week.  Up to a foot of snow is expected in some parts of northwest Wisconsin today but the chance for accumulation further south won’t come until this evening.  Up to four inches could fall tonight to the north and west of Eau Claire before steady rain moves in the early morning.  Then, another inch or so could fall on Friday.  Forecasters are not recommending overnight travel tonight in any of the impacted areas.

LIGHT UP EC PREPS FOR BIG EVENT
