BODY RECOVERED FROM LOCAL LAKE

Authorities say boaters on a Chippewa County lake found the body of an elderly man.  An official says people were boating yesterday afternoon on Otter Lake when they came across another boat with a man floating in the water nearby.  Witnesses told investigators they had seen the man boating shortly before and didn’t believe he’d been in the water very long.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

9-11 REMEMBERED

Yesterday was a day of ceremony nationally and locally as EMS, first responders, law enforcement, and fire rescue units gathered to remember the 17th anniversary of September 11th terrorist attacks.  Here in our area, The Eau Claire school district taught students about the history and impact of the September 11th attacks through a formal curriculum.  Current K through 12 students don’t remember that day because only the oldest seniors had been born. WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Today is the 17th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.  The names of the nearly three-thousand people who died in the attacks in the World Trade Center in New York were read aloud at the 9-11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan.  Several thousand family members and friends who lost loved ones gathered near where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center once stood.  President Trump and First Lady Melania visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  The memorial

Shoppers have a new option in Menomonie! Hope Gospel Mission has a new Thrift Store in Menomonie located at 1230 North Broadway. A Grand Opening Celebration is scheduled for Monday. The Menomonie Chamber of Commerce will be conducting the official ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00am. Everyone is welcome there are several opportunities for volunteers to help regularly which makes up about 40% of the workforce. Profits from this new store will be used to help support Hope Gospel Mission’s New Hope Renewal

ATV CRASH UPDATE

The victim of a deadly ATV crash is being identified as Chad Dibble of Milltown.  Dibble was killed over the weekend when his ATV crashed on a trail in the Township of Fifield.  Police say Dibble was thrown from the ATV after hitting a tree.  The crash remains under Investigation.

SUICIDE PREVENTION WEEK

This is National Suicide Prevention Week.  There are workshops, resources and crisis information available across the state and health officials urge people to help others get the assistance they need.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says more than 700 Wiconsinites die by suicide each year.  The department has resource information posted on its website, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness [[ NAMI ]] has crisis numbers posted.

A VOTE FOR MORE MONEY

CHECK THE “MORE PLEASE” BOX! The Eau Claire County Clerk is asking for ten thousand dollars more for bucks for more ballots for the November election.  County Clerk Janet Loomis says historical turnouts in the previous three elections this year mean extra ballots are needed.  The office had budgeted 20-thousand dollars for the entire year, but will fall short of the funding needed to purchase the required number of ballots.

K-9 TRACKS DOWN SUSPECT

The Eau Claire police department says one of its K9’s helped track down a suspect on the run from an attempted traffic stop that turned into a chase, and eventually a crash. The passenger took off on foot and K9 Jake and his handler Officer O’Connell were able to track down Paige Young.  Young was arrested on several charges.  The case is still being investigated.

COUPLE CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT

 A married couple is charged with sexually assaulting at least two children for more than a decade.  Linda and Richard Getter both face multiple charges in Trempealeau County.  Authorities say the abuse began when the children were seven and nine.  The victims are now adults and came forward to investigators last month.  Richard and Linda are set to appear in court next week.
