Several La Crosse groups are working together, holding a benefit called Fight the Flood.  Thousands gathered at the Southside Oktoberfest grounds yesterday for a concert to benefit victims of recent flooding.  Organizers say the fundraising goal was 150-thousand dollars.  On that note, environmentalists say recent floods could cause problems next year.  The Clean Lakes Alliance this week said that all of the rain that fell last month could lead to an outbreak of green-blue algae next year.  The Alliance is

BREW CREW HEARS CHEERS

It helps to be in the playoff hunt.  Brewers officials yesterday said attendance for this season could easily top two-point-eight million people.  Brewers Chief Operating Officer Rick Schlesinger says that despite playing the smallest market in the major leagues, Milwaukee could make the top ten in attendance.  Schlesinger says Miller Park welcomed over two-and-a-half million fans last year.  Back in 2011, the last time the Brewers made the playoffs, the park saw three million fans.

HOME DOLLAR DAMAGE CLIMBS

Sauk County Emergency Management officials say two rounds of flooding has damaged homes to the tune of nine-million-dollars.   Over 300 homes in Sauk County sustained damage.  Homes and businesses in Reedsburg and La Valle, as well as Rock Springs and North Freedom were hit the hardest.

FLOODS RAISE ALGAE THREAT

Environmentalists say recent floods could cause problems next year.  The Clean Lakes Alliance this week said that all of the rain that fell last month could lead to an outbreak of green-blue algae next year.  The Alliance is worried there could be a real problem across a large part of southern Wisconsin.  Blue-green algae can make people sick, but it can be deadly for dogs and cats and other pets.

CADOTT MAN FACING 100K CASH BOND

A Cadott man accused of stabbing a deputy is facing a 100-thousand dollar cash bond.  Authorities say Sergeant Andrew Clark was stabbed with a knife in the shoulder while trying to restrain the suspect in August in the Town of Wheaton.  The deputy is recovering.

VETS BUS AT LOCAL CAMPUS

Veterans at UW-Stout are getting access to services to help make the transition between military and civilian life.  The Vet Center Bus stopped by the university yesterday providing student veterans with the opportunity to learn about services available to them.  The center is a one-stop resource where veteran can get answers to questions about post-combat supports, such as health care and mental health treatment.

MORE BUCKS IN BUCKYLAND

Newly released Census estimates say that there are more bucks in Buckyland as household incomes are up and poverty is down.  The 2017 statistics released yesterday show the state’s median household annual income rose more than a thousand dollars. Wisconsin’s poverty rate remains basically unchanged from the previous year, and continues to be about one percent lower than the national rate.

WI RED CROSS PLANS FOR HURRICANE FLORENCE

Several organizations are preparing to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.  Over thirty Wisconsin Red Cross disaster volunteers headed out yesterday to the Carolinas and Virginia and in an odd connection, Hurricane Florence could mean a shortage of Thanksgiving Turkeys.  The monster storm is headed toward North Carolina, which is the number one turkey state in the country.  Many of Butterball’s processing plants, hatcheries and feed mills are right in the storm’s projected path-so stores will try to stock

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PLEADS NOT GUILTY

 A Mosinee high school student is pleading not guilty to sexual assault charges.  The student appeared in Marathon County Court today where a judge ruled the case was bound over for trial.  The suspect was released after posting a five-thousand-dollar bond.  The alleged victim tells police that she and the suspect were talking in a garden area near a school playground when he sexually assaulted her.
