A man accused of threatening to kill estranged family members at a high school graduation ceremony is facing charges in Monroe County court. Benjamin Sidie was in court yesterday on charges of making terrorist threats and disorderly conduct.  He was arrested in Iowa in the end of May after making threats over text messages and talking about getting into a “suicide by cop” situation at the Sparta High School graduation. The ceremony has been rescheduled.

The Eau Claire YMCA is looking to purchase the Eau Claire Indoor Sports Center. If the sale is approved by the city council, the parties are hoping to complete the transition by September 1st.  The YMCA says it wouldn’t be taking away any programs, but would instead integrate them into their lineup-including a home for their gymnastics program.

The gavel has dropped and a State Supreme Court ruling is a victory for the City of Eau Claire. The court voted five to two yesterday morning in favor of the city in a case involving funding for the Pablo Center at the Confluence.  The city’s assistant attorney says Eau Claire officials were confident that they’d acted within the bounds of the law in using tax incremental financing for the project.

Just before 11 on Thursday morning 30 year old Josh Tireman was located deceased by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of Ace Helicopters by air off 610th St in Otter Creek township. The Miss America pageant is getting a major makeover.  The annual Atlantic City beauty competition is scrapping its swimsuit and evening gown competitions. Instead, the emphasis will be on brains over beauty with contestants urged to wear whatever makes them feel confident.  Gretchen Carlson, made the yesterday, saying that Miss America is no longer a pageant, but a “competition.”  Carlson says contestants will be asked to showcase their intelligence, passion and understanding of what the job of Miss America requires.

In Chippewa, it was fire sirens as six people are injured after a fire at St. Joseph’s apartment building on Pearl Street. Fire officials say the fire started on a mattress on the second story, but there’s no word on how it happened. The fire damaged at least ten of the 76 apartments.  Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, including a firefighter with injuries to his hand.  Three others were treated on-scene.

UPDATE Authorities are releasing the name of the suspect found dead inside the BMO Harris Bank building on Water Street.  Police confirm 43-year-old Za Vue barricaded himself in a utility room in the building, then started a fire. He admitted to being on meth and preliminary autopsy results show he died from smoke inhalation.  Toxicology results are pending.   We now have details after Water Street was shut down most of the day yesterday. The U.S. Supreme Court is handing a victory to a Christian baker in Colorado. The high court ruled in favor of the man who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.  The baker said he refused to do so on religious grounds.  The high court said the Colorado Civil Rights Commission violated the baker’s rights by displaying hostility about his religious beliefs.
