An accident involving a team bus shut down Highway 48 for 5 hours. It happened on Tuesday just before 9:30. A 911 call came in of a school bus vs car accident on Hwy 48 just west of Rice Lake. On Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11:05 AM the Dunn County E-911 Center received a report of a Cirrus aircraft that had gone in the Township of Sand Creek. The Department of Natural Resources Bureau of Law Enforcement is investigating two illegal elk shootings in Monroe and Jackson Counties that occurred during the 9-day gun deer season. An adult bull elk was shot and killed after being misidentified by a man who was deer hunting near Warrens on Saturday, November 17. WOMAN IN CUSTODY AFTER CAR CHASE

A woman is in custody after leading police on a lengthy car chase through Jackson County.  Police say they tried to pull over 27-year-old Kaylee Berg on Monday morning after she was believed to be in a stolen car but she refused to stop.  Officers report the chase lasted for over 30 miles and went through multiple townships before a spike strip stopped the car near Kirch and Staffon Road.  Berg already had a warrant out for her arrest and

MAN FACING CHARGES IN LACROSSE BREAK IN

An Onalaska man is facing burglary and trespassing charges after being accused of breaking into an apartment in La Crosse.  The victim told police that a man kicked in his door and attacked him last Friday but that he didn’t know who it was.  Police were able to track down the suspect after the victim identified his face tattoos from a picture on Facebook.  Officers arrested 37-year-old Travis Kidd on Monday and he’s being held on 25-hundred dollars bond.  His

HMONG EDUCATION BILL

 A new bill may be going to the Wisconsin State Legislature that would direct the teaching of Hmong history and culture in Wisconsin schools.  The La Crosse Tribune reports an initial bill was struck down in March but the La Crosse School Board recently backed a revised version of it and it plans to send it to the next legislative session.  La Cross Superintendent Randy Nelson says he believes the bill will pass this time and that he hopes people will see the need

LOOKING TO PASS PASSING LEGISLATION

Some residents in La Crosse are pushing an ordinance to stop people from passing school buses.  WEAU says city law allows drivers to pass school buses even when they have their flashing lights on and stop arm out if there’s a sidewalk and a curb on both sides of the street.  An ordinance is on the Judiciary and Administration Committee meeting agenda for December fourth to try to get that loophole changed.
