DRUG BUST LEADS TO HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIMS

The Eau Claire Sheriff’s office says a number of human trafficking victims have come forward since a recent drug bust.  Charles Page and Mark Scoville were arrested last month during the bust and deputies say there was evidence of human trafficking in two homes.  Deputies say since then at least three victims have come forward as victims connected to the suspects.  The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone else who may have been a victim in the case to come forward.

EAU CLAIRE MAN PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO SEXUAL ASSAULT

An Eau Claire man is pleading not guilty to sexual assaulting a nine-year-old girl.  A criminal complaint claims James Kittleson performed sex acts on the girl while she was staying at his home and he told her not to tell her parents.  Kittleson faces two charges including first-degree sexual assault of a child and could do up to 60 years in prison.

ALTOONA MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING

An Altoona man is charged with attempted kidnapping.  Police say Nathan Homme is accused of planning to break into his ex-wife’s Minneapolis home and security footage shows someone scouting out the property one morning.  Police say Homme’s phone can be tracked back to that area and investigators say they’ve found what appears to be kidnapping plans at his home. KICKING OFF CONSTRUCTION SEASON

An project on Interstate-94 near Menomonie is likely to cause some backups this spring and summer.  According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, construction will take place between 250th Street and Wilson Creek starting on April 1st and run until November.  I-94 will stay open during construction but speed limits will be reduced and traffic will likely be reduced to one lane in both directions.

FROM FLOODS TO FIRE…

Add Arcadia to the list of western Wisconsin communities getting a little help with flood recovery.  Congressman Ron Kind yesterday said the federal government approved four million-dollars to help the city recover from the floods.  Local leaders say the money is earmarked to build barriers to keep flood waters out of the city’s business district. FAKE IT ‘TILL YOU MAKE IT?

“Fake it ’till you make it” doesn’t translate to money. Police in Eau Claire and Menomonie ware warning local businesses about a new round of fake 100 dollar bills.  Officers say they’ve seen an uptick in counterfeit cash over the past few weeks.  Police say the feel of the money is the biggest tip-off, though the ink and printing on the fake bills is also a little off.

SHOPKO CLOSURE TO AFFECT 1700 EMPLOYEES

Nearly 17 hundred people across Wisconsin will be looking for new jobs soon.  The state says ShopKo will lay off nearly 17 hundred people when it closes its doors this summer.  The company turned-in a report to the Department of Workforce Development this week.  ShopKo had hoped to find a new buyer while in bankruptcy, but announced earlier this month that it would close instead.

FOXCONN BREAKS GROUND

The work has finally begun on Foxconn’s Wisconsin factory.  Crews broke ground yesterday in Mount Pleasant.  The hope is to have the plant up and running before the end of next year.  Foxconn is still promising 15 thousand jobs for southeast Wisconsin.  There were fears earlier this year that Foxconn may not build the plant, or at least scale it down.

The 2019 baseball season is underway for the Milwaukee Brewers.  A soldout crowd at Miller Park watched the Brewers fall behind early against the St Louis Cardinals when the Redbirds hit two home runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.  But the Brewers pounded out a few homers of their own to take a two-run edge midway through the game.  For many Brewers fans the only thing better than the beer and the brats of Opening Day
