WI JOINS OPIOID INVESTIGATION

Wisconsin is joining the multi-state investigation of opioid distributors.  In 2017, the Attorneys General of several states created a bipartisan coalition to investigate opioid manufacturers and distributors to see whether their practices contributed to the opioid epidemic.  Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said today the opioid epidemic is the most significant public safety challenge faced by the state.

WWII MARINE CORPS CAPTAIN IDENTIFIED

The remains of a World War Two Marine Corps captain have been identified.  The agency responsible for accounting for POWs and those Missing in Action says today Captain Lester Schade of Abbotsford was accounted for officially in July of last year.  Schade was captured by enemy forces and held prisoner in the Philippines for more than two years.  During a transfer to Japan, the ship he was on was attacked and he was listed as missing and presumed dead in

The $625 million Powerball jackpot rolled again Saturday, but the drawing produced Wisconsin’s largest game win of 2019. A ticket purchased in Racine was one of the nation’s two $2 million prize winners in the March 23 draw. The winning ticket was sold at Speedway (2110 S. Green Bay Rd.) in Racine.

HIGGINS DUE IN COURT TODAY

A Wisconsin man accused of abducting a two-year-old girl and killing her mother is due in court for a preliminary hearing in Milwaukee today.  Dariaz Higgins is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting of Sierra Robinson and multiple charges in connection to the disappearance of Noelani Robinson.  Higgins was arrested on March 13th and another person is also in custody on charges of aiding a fugitive.

SEARCH CONTINUES…

The search is continuing for missing veteran James Liedtka.  Reports say volunteers spent the weekend searching for Liedtka and handing out flyers with his picture and information on them.  Liedtka was last seen with friends in the early morning hours on November 4th on Water Street in Eau Claire.  Search crews scoured that area on Saturday but found no signs of him.

UW WOMEN’S HOCKEY NETS WIN

The University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team has its fifth straight national championship.  The Badgers won the NCAA tournament over the weekend by shutting out Minnesota 2-to-nothing in the championship game in Hamden, Connecticut.  Goalkeeper Kristen Campbell was named most outstanding player of the game and made 27 saves.

I’ll tell your achy, breaky, heart the news…Another artist is being added to the Ashley for the Arts concert festival lineup in Arcadia.  Ashley for the Arts recently announced Billy Ray Cyrus will play on the main stage on August 9th at 4:00 in the afternoon.  He joins other popular artist already on the lineup such as Brothers Osborne, Lady Antebellum, and Chris Kroeze.

EVERS TO ASSESS LOCAL FLOOD DAMAGE

Governor Tony Evers is going to get a firsthand look at just how high the water is in western Wisconsin.  The governor is expected in Trempealeau County later today for a tour.  He’s expected to talk with leaders from Arcadia, and the governor will also go to both  Dodge and Centerville.  Governor Evers placed Trempealeau County under a disaster declaration earlier this month.
