FILLING THE TANK FOR A WEEKEND ROAD TRIP?

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Wisconsin is up a penny-a-gallon compared to a week ago.  Heading into the weekend, Triple-A says the average price statewide is two-dollars-and-84-cents, while the national average is two-85.  Drivers in Racine are paying the highest price at the pump at three-oh-one a gallon.  The lowest average price can be found in Janesville at two-70.

The Eau Claire Police Department has been notified Sex Offender Jeffrey J. Bonnin (DOB: 02/23/1972) will be released From the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center on May 22, 2019. Bonnin will remain under the supervision of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services indefinitely and will be under supervision of Wisconsin Department of Corrections. FLAGS ORDERED TO HALF STAFF FOR FALLEN FIREFIGHTER

Gov. Tony Evers today ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for Mitchell F. Lundgaard, a Firefighter of the Appleton Fire Department, who served the people of the Fox River Valley and Wisconsin for 14 years. SHOOTING SUSPECTS AT LARGE IN DODGE CO.

Deputies are on the lookout for two suspects after a man was shot in Dodge County.  The sheriff’s office says it was called to the shooting in Reeseville, northeast of Madison, last night and found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound.  The victim is in the hospital in stable condition and deputies are looking for two men in dark-colored clothes who are believed to have pulled the trigger.

EXPLOSION SHUTS LOCAL BUSINESS DOWN BRIEFLY

An Elk Mound business is cleaning up after a dust explosion.  Reports say a fertilizer leg pipe exploded last night at Synergy Cooperative on Highway 40.  No injuries were reported and the explosion resulted in a brief shutdown of the business.

HOW LOW CAN YA GO, WI?

Wisconsin’s unemployment rate is at a record low.  According to Wisconsin Workforce Development, the unemployment rate dropped to two-point-eight percent in April, matching the all-time low set in April of last year.  However, Wisconsin also lost more than five-thousand jobs last month.

The new Stillson Elementary School in Lafayette is officially under construction.  Reports say there was a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday and members of the school district were in attendance to take part.  The school is about a mile west of the current school location in Chippewa Falls near Lake Wissota.

BUDGET BACK AND FORTH

How much more will state lawmakers spend?  That’s the central question at the Capitol in Madison.  The legislature’s budget writing panel, the Joint Finance Committee, yesterday debated spending more on roads, colleges, and healthcare.  Lawmakers agreed to spend 25-million more on technical schools, but disagreed on most other items.  The legislature is supposed to have a new budget to Governor Evers by the end of June.

SHOPKO SEES OPTICAL DEPARTMENTS REOPENING

The private equity firm that now owns ShopKo says it has plans to re-open the store’s optical department.  Monarch Alternative Capital yesterday said they plan to open 80 ShopKo Optical stores in the coming months.  The company says it wants to continue to work with the patients, doctors, opticians and the communities that it serves.

KAUL PRESCRIBES LAWSUIT AGAINST PURDUE PHARMA

Add Wisconsin to the list of states suing one of the makers of opioid pain pills. Attorney General Josh Kaul yesterday announced that the state is suing Purdue Pharma which makes OxyContin.  Kaul, along with attorneys general in four other states are suing, as they blame the company for pushing opioid pains pills despite serious worries about addiction.  Those pills, the lawsuit states, went on to fuel the opioid crisis in Wisconsin and across the country.
