 An Eau Claire woman is facing multiple animal and child neglect charges.  According to a criminal complaint, 31-year-old Ashley Johnson was arrested on Saturday after police responded to her house when she claimed there were men with guns there.  Officers didn’t find any men but they say the house had a large amount of urine and fecal matter on the floors and there were multiple dogs and cats that looked malnourished.  They say that Johnson’s kids were also forced into

A La Crosse man is dead after a rollover crash involving a milk truck in Dewhurst.  The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says the 54-year-old man was at the intersection of Highways 95 and J last Friday afternoon when he pulled in front of the milk truck.  The truck hit the man’s passenger side, causing his vehicle to roll.  He was pronounced dead at the scene 

The city of Altoona is looking for a new police chief now that Jesse James is elected to the state assembly.  The city administrator says James’ final day as chief will be on January 7th, mentioning it’s not possible for him to work both positions at the same time.  The police and fire commission plans to discuss the process of hiring a new chief at its meeting on Wednesday. 

Altoona might not be ready to embrace a new gas station near Hillcrest Greens.  The plan commission voted yesterday, but as the Leader-Telegram mentioned, the city plan commission recommended the construction of a Casey’s, but the car wash that was initially planned to be built with it will not be.  Some Hillcrest Greens residents opposed the new store, saying a gas station doesn’t fit their neighborhood.  The city council will vote on whether or not to approve the project on

Investigators in Barron are still puzzled at what happened to a missing 13-year-old girl and her parents who were shot to death.  Sheriff Fitzgerald says the Department of Criminal Investigation still has no real theory on what happened to Jayme Closs or why her parents were killed back on October 15th.  He also says he doesn’t believe that the public is in danger. 

A rate hike could raise a stink as city utility bills in Eau Claire may be rising next year. The city council met last night to flush out the details and will vote today to decide on whether or not to add a ten percent sewage increase beginning on January 1st.  The city is also considering making a splash in other fees as well, including water and storm water.  The city manager says the uptick in fees is part of

Six cases of a rare paralyzing disease are now confirmed in Wisconsin.  The state Department of Health Services said yesterday that five of the six people affected by acute flaccid myelitis in the state are children.  Across 25 states, there have been 80 confirmed cases of the illness during 2018 so far.  

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is proposing a transformation in its curriculum.  The proposal was released yesterday and includes eliminating six humanities majors.  The Chancellor says he wants to make the school a”new kind of regional university” and combines liberal arts with career-minded majors. 

The Baraboo School District is investigating a controversial group photo circulating on social media.  School district officials says they became aware this morning of the picture, which appears to show some students using the Nazi salute.  A letter was sent to  parents saying the photo was taken last spring and was not taken on school property or at a school-sponsored event.  The district is investigating the situation with local authorities and reaffirms its commitment to a no-hate environment for all.
