FAMILY HOPES TO BRING JAYME HOME

Jayme Closs’ family is still hoping to see the missing 13-year-old again.  Closs’ aunts and uncle yesterday said they are still looking for her, and trying to run down any tips that may bring her home.  It’s been a month since friends and family members last saw Closs.  Investigators in Barron say someone shot and killed her parents last month in their home.

WI CAPITAL BUDGET APPROVED

The capital budget for the city of Madison is finalized.  The nearly 350-million dollar 2019 budget was approved by a unanimous voice vote by the Madison City Council yesterday.  The biggest change to the capital budget was adding nearly six million dollars for flood mitigation projects after flash flooding and high-water levels that threatened parts of the city in late summer.

SUPPORT GROUP FOR MALE VICTIMS

A support group is being offered in Eau Claire for male victims of abuse.  Bolton Refuge House is behind Men Finding Peace, an anonymous men’s support group for survivors of sexual, domestic, and emotional trauma.  The victim advocate in charge of the group is hoping to give victimized men a place to share their pain.

FIRST RESPONDERS HONORED IN EC

Chippewa Valley Technical College and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation are honoring Eau Claire first responders.  An event was held yesterday at the college in honor of traffic incident response week and included a discussion and demonstrations of traffic crash response and vehicle extraction.  Governor Walker proclaimed November 11th through 17th traffic incident response week in Wisconsin.

HITTING THE HOLIDAY BULLS-EYE?

A northern Wisconsin glass maker is skipping the holiday ham or lotto tickets this year.  Instead, managers at BenShot, a Hortonville glass company, are giving out pistols as holiday bonuses.  Ben Wolfgram with the company says, specifically, they’re giving workers a gift card to pick-up a pistol of their choice.  Wolfgram says the workers like the idea, and he likes the idea of keeping his people safe.

BARABOOOOOOO?

An investigation is underway into a photo showing a group of mostly white Wisconsin high school students giving what appears to be a Nazi salute.  The students are from Baraboo High School, which is about 30 miles northwest of Madison.  The Baraboo School District is investigating the photo and says the act is not reflective of the district’s beliefs and values.  Baraboo Police also said they’re aware of the photo and that officers are helping the district with its investigation.

BLOOD NEEDS A BOOST

There is a severe blood shortage that will only get worse with the onset of winter if donations aren’t boosted.  The American Red Cross issued an immediate call for blood donors today after collecting far fewer blood and platelet donations in September and October than the demand.  The Red Cross says it needs about 75 more blood drives in the area to stop the continuing shortage.  Type O blood is especially needed.

EVERS PREPS FOR TRANSITION TO GOVERNOR

Governor-elect Tony Evers has the budget he needs for his administration’s transition.  The state legislature’s finance committee today approved nearly 95-thousand-dollars to cover a variety of expenses, including some salaries, travel, equipment and legal expenses.  Evers will resign his current position as state schools superintendent after he is sworn-in as governor on January 7th.

MAN RULED NOT COMPETENT TO STAND TRIAL

A Holcombe man accused of murder is being considered not competent to stand trial.  Thirty-one-year-old Preston Kraft is accused of shooting and killing Robert Petit in Willard back in May, but all future proceedings in the case are now cancelled after yesterday’s ruling.  Kraft was placed on involuntary medication and put into the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services.  He is currently being transferred to a mental institution.
