Workers across the U.S. are upset by a planned closure of Harley-Davidson’s Kansas City plant, despite benefiting from a tax cut.  The Milwaukee-based motorcycle manufacturer announced cuts of 350 jobs across the company. Sales have been dropping as fewer younger riders are stepping up to invest in the bikes.  The company announced a half-cent dividend increase and a buyback of up to 15 million shares in February, but says those things are not related to the tax cut benefits.

Memorial Day is the official KICK OFF TO SUMMER, regardless of how much it costs! Gas prices are set to be the most expensive in four years, but that’s not stopping Eau Claire drivers from traveling.  More than 700-thousand people from Wisconsin will hit the road for the holiday weekend-which is more than last year. And if you are one of them, or if you are staying closer to home…have a safe start to summer and Memorial Day weekend.

You will see a SIGNS that we support our Veterans…literally! A Chippewa Falls business owner is behind a move to put signs up on five bridges around town to honor veterans.  Each bridge sign is dedicated to veterans of one of five branches of the military-The Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard.  The project was funded privately by Scott Sullivan, The Elks Club, and other donors.

When you are a kid, summer can mean freedom on two wheels…wheeeee! And bike safety is back on our radar- The Eau Claire Police Department and Eau Claire Area School District teamed up last night to host the first district-wide elementary school bike safety rodeo.  The free event included bike safety checks, fun safety courses, bike helmet fittings and more to remind people to keep an extra eye out as our sidewalks and roads fill up with bikers.

Now there is an easy way to pedal your metal! A scrap metal drive is raising funds for a new K9 at the Altoona Police Department.  Organizers say collection of household items (So, those bigger items you have-things like washers and dryers, bikes. lawnmowers, etc…) is taking place at The Shed on Mayer Road in Altoona. Scrap metal can be dropped off through June 6th.

A familiar name is opening doors again. Gordy’s Market is working to reopen its Eau Claire location-the one on Clairemont.  City Council approved a liquor license for the location Tuesday and store leaders say plans are in motion and we could be pushing carts in the aisles in July.

It is closed to vehicle traffic and from the wheels to the water, the channel under Paint Creek Bridge is also closed to boat traffic after it partially collapsed. Signs went up recently noting the closing.  The Lafayette Town Board approved sharing the cost of demolishing the bridge with Chippewa County.  Officials hope the old bridge is removed by Fourth of July weekend, with the new bridge going up by next July.

The search for Preston Kraft.is over. The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office explained in a press release that yesterday morning someone noticed Kraft walking near their home, on Imalone Road on the border of Atlanta and Murry Townships. That was called in about 8 in the morning and deputies responded on the ground as well as in the air with aircraft and drones. A team of K9 officers were also called in, and Kraft was taken into custody. Police say no
