HMONG EDUCATION BILL

 A new bill may be going to the Wisconsin State Legislature that would direct the teaching of Hmong history and culture in Wisconsin schools.  The La Crosse Tribune reports an initial bill was struck down in March but the La Crosse School Board recently backed a revised version of it and it plans to send it to the next legislative session.  La Cross Superintendent Randy Nelson says he believes the bill will pass this time and that he hopes people will see the need

LOOKING TO PASS PASSING LEGISLATION

Some residents in La Crosse are pushing an ordinance to stop people from passing school buses.  WEAU says city law allows drivers to pass school buses even when they have their flashing lights on and stop arm out if there’s a sidewalk and a curb on both sides of the street.  An ordinance is on the Judiciary and Administration Committee meeting agenda for December fourth to try to get that loophole changed.

MAKING BARRON PROUD, KROZE HITS A HIGH NOTE

Barron resident Chris Kroeze is moving on to the next round of NBC’s The Voice.  On Monday night, Kroeze performed Let It Be and dedicated it to the community of Barron and to missing 13-year-old Jayme Closs who hasn’t been seen since October 15th.  Last night it was announced that Kroeze escaped elimination and will be moving on to the next round of live performances next Monday night.

Police agencies across Wisconsin are warning people that it’s the season when porch pirates are on the prowl.  There is an uptick in theft of packages as the holidays approach and more people are ordering gifts online for delivery.  If packages are left unattended, people need to remember that theft is often a crime of convenience.  Authorities advise, if possible, having packages delivered to work or to a friend who can accept them and keep them safe until you can pick them

“LETTUCE” TOSS THE ROMAINE AWAY

SCHIMEL TO BENCH

Where one door closes another bench opens, as Governor Walker is appointing outgoing Attorney General Brad Schimel to the Waukesha County court.  Walker made the announcement yesterday, saying Schimel is committed to the rule of law and to the state.  Democrats call the appointment political backscratching.

BLAZING PAST LAST YEARS NUMBERS

We are RACKING up numbers this hunting season. Wildlife officials say the 2018 gun deer season is off to a successful start.  More than 118-thousand deer were harvested over opening weekend across the state, up from last year.  The Department of Natural Resources sold nearly 600-thousand gun-deer licenses this season.

Baraboo is talking…leaders are initiating a public discussion to address a controversial photo of Baraboo students with a series of meetings.  The first meeting was held yesterday high school commons with more than 300 people attending.  The event was organized by school and civic leaders and people from the community as well as area clergy with a focus on healing and providing guidance to students.

As we come upon the season of red and green, The Red Cross is issuing an urgent call for blood donors.  The organization says they are facing a severe blood shortage that could get worse this winter.  Volunteer blood drive hosts are also in critical need to prevent further shortages.

A Thanksgiving meal packing event is helping to feed over 30 Eau Claire families.  The Chippewa Valley After Hours Rotary Club gathered last night at the Eagle’s Club in Lake Hallie to put together meals including turkey,stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberries, rolls, and pie.  The meals will feed over 180 people.  The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley are gathering together fora sit-down meal.  The organization hosted a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner last night for
