Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 9:49 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received  two calls of a subject in a truck that had pulled into their driveways looking for his child. When the complainants stated his child was not there, he pointed a firearm at them. DNR Issues Special Fire Order Due To Ongoing Drought

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that due to prolonged drought conditions and potential for elevated fire danger throughout the fall, the agency is reinstating DNR burning permits by issuing a Special Fire Order in 13 Wisconsin counties. Tim Walz is bringing the presidential race back to Eau Claire today. Walz is scheduled to rally in Eau Claire before heading off for another visit to Green Bay. The stops come as voters in Wisconsin begin to narrow their focus for next month’s election. Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris have the lead in Wisconsin’s presidential race, though some polls say the race is essentially tied. Wisconsin’s attorney general says he’s ready to defend the results of the November election. A-G Josh Kaul said on UpFront yesterday that he has the utmost confidence in Wisconsin’s electoral system. Back to the Boundary Drawing Board?

Some kids in Chippewa Falls could be going to different schools in the not-too-distant future. The city’s school district says it is looking to redraw the elementary school boundaries. The school board said they are looking at new boundaries for all six elementary schools. The hope is to have a new map for the city’s school’s by the start of the next school year.

WI Tops List of US Dam Failures

A new report says Wisconsin is second in the nation in the number of dam failures. The Wisconsin Policy Forum says since 2000, 34 dams in Wisconsin have failed. Only South Carolina has seen more failures. The report says 28 of those 34 dams have failed since 2018. The report says it’s a sign of aging, and failing infrastructure. UW-Stout Hosts Real Meeting on A.I.

Wisconsin’s next A.I. meeting will hear from both big tech and local news managers. The Study Committee on the Regulation of Artificial Intelligence will meet tomorrow at UW-Stout in Menomonie. Representatives from both Google and Microsoft are scheduled to speak to lawmakers. So are local news managers out of La Crosse. The panel is trying to find ways where Wisconsin can regulate artificial intelligence, and find out where AI’s biggest threats are. The hope is to have something for lawmakers

Go Bo Go!

Bo Ryan is now a hall of fame coach. The former Badger basketball coach was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall Of Fame yesterday. Ryan coached the University of Wisconsin from 2001 til 2016, and led the Badgers to the 2015 National Championship game against Duke.  Ryan is the third Badger to be inducted into the Hall.

The Packers took care of business, and easily took care of the Arizona Cardinals yesterday. Green Bay cruised to a 34-13 win. Jordan Love finished the day with 258 yards and four touchdowns. Nine different Packers caught a pass from Love. The win improves Green Bay’s record to 4-2, and leaves them tied with every other NFC North team but the Vikings.
