The Elk Mound Police Department is warning people about fake cash in the area. The department posted a copy of the fake bills of social media this morning (Wed). The fake cash has the words For Motion Picture Use Only printed on the right side. Elk Mound Police encourage people to look over cash before they accept it. Police in Chetek warned people about similar fake bills two weeks ago.

Draw Down Coming for Lake Altoona

The Eau Claire County Parks & Forest Department announces that in accordance with state  guidelines, the annual 0.7-foot (8.4 inches) winter draw down of Lake Altoona will begin on Friday  morning, November 1, 2024. Frost on the Pumpkin!

Folks across southeast Wisconsin may need the ice scraper to start the day today. The National Weather Service is leaving a Freeze Warning in effect til 9 a.m. That means a hard freeze in some places further inland, and lots of frost even for people near the lake. WI Political Rallies Continue, Former President Obama Set to Visit

Eau Claire’s latest campaign stop saw a couple of governors on campus. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer dropped by UW-Eau Claire yesterday to tally young voters. They talked about Kamala Harris and abortion. Eau Claire will play a role in deciding who wins Wisconsin next month. On that note, political attention continues. The Kamala Harris campaign is bringing the former president to Wisconsin. Former President Obama is set to campaign for Harris in Madison next week.

Bucks for Buckyland: WI Budget Surplus in Billions

Wisconsin’s budget surplus is over four-and-a-half billion-dollars. The state’s Department of Revenue released its latest figure yesterday. The final numbers show Wisconsin has four-point-six billion-dollars more than it spent. The state also has nearly two billion-dollars in its rainy day fund. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said the extra money should be reinvested in his next budget. Republican lawmakers, however, have said in the past that they want to give the money back to the people of Wisconsin.

WI Public Schools Set for Funding

Most of Wisconsin’s public schools will see more money from the state this year. The Department of Public Instruction released the general state aid figures yesterday. Two-thirds of schools will get more money, while about a third will get less. In all, Wisconsin is sending just over five-and-a-half billion-dollars to local schools. Milwaukee Public Schools are among those getting less, in part because of the city’s sloppy record keeping and late financial reports.

Public Invited to Comment on Proposed Budget

The Eau Claire County Board is holding two meetings for public comment on the proposed 2025 budget. The board of supervisors says its looking for feedback during a meeting tonight at seven P-M. Another meeting will be held on November 6th. Both hearings will be in the county board room in the Eau Claire Government Center on Oxford Avenue.
