The UW-Madison chancellor is signing a letter that protects transgender rights and is being sent to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.  Rebecca Blank co-signed the letter urging DeVos to oppose a policy change that would define gender based on male or female biology.  The letter was also signed by Princeton University President Christopher Eisgruber and Rutgers University President Robert Barchi.  The move comes a few weeks after President Trump’s administration said they were considering restricting the definition of gender to be

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Wisconsin is down four-cents from a week ago.  Triple-A says the average price statewide is two-dollars-and-71-cents, while the national average is two-78-a-gallon.  The lowest prices are posted in Kenosha County at two-57-a-gallon.  Drivers in Superior are paying the most at the pump at two-87, followed by Eau Claire at two-80.

A tragedy in Chippewa County unfolds as The Lake Hallie Police Department reported a fatal hit and run involving five people. It happened just after 11:30 Saturday morning near Weber Field and the 29 overpass. The Girl Scouts were picking up trash along the roadside when a truck hit them, killing 3 children and one adult. Another child is injured in critical condition.  The 21-year-old driver left the scene but he later returned to give himself up to police.  Police

Authorities in Barron are slowing their search for missing 13-year-old Jayme Closs.  Yesterday, the Barron County sheriff said the number of tips he’s been receiving is starting to decline, leading police to end their 24-7 search.  He also said that even though the search is slowing, finding Closs is still his agency’s number one priority.  A 50-thousand dollar reward is being offered for any information leading to Closs’ discovery. 

An elderly Fall Creek man is dead after falling over 50 feet at his antenna farm.  The Fall Creek fire chief says 84-year-old Paul Bittner fell about 70 feet while on a walk Wednesday and was later found dead at the scene.  Bittner was known to dabble in radio and had many antenna and radio towers on his property, making it known as an antenna farm. 

A woman from Eau Claire is facing burglary and drug possession charges after being accused of robbing an Altoona pharmacy.  Police say they responded to a burglary at Phillips Pharmacy earlier this week and arrived to find 25-year-old Andrea Henning inside.  They report Henning had stolen money and items from the gift shop and had LSD in her purse.  She is currently out on bond but is facing up to 12 years in prison. 

An Eau Claire man is going to prison after pleading guilty to selling heroin in the area.  The Leader-Telegram reports 28-year-old Cody Burgess was recently sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted on counts of heroin possession and delivery.  An anonymous tip claimed Burgess sold heroin in the area for about six months starting in 2017.  He is also being fined and forced to pay nearly two-thousand dollars in restitution.
