FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS PLANNED FOR VICTIMS

Funeral arrangements are being set for the victims of a Lake Hallie hit-and-run crash.  Ten-year-old Haylee Hickle’s funeral will be held Thursday at the Chippewa Valley Bible Church in Chippewa Falls.  Hickle’s mother, 32-year-old Sara Schneider’s funeral will be held in concert with Haylee’s.  The funeral for nine-year-old Jayna Kelley will be held Friday at Chippewa Valley Bible Church Ten-year-old Autumn Helgeson’s funeral will be held Thursday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.

NOTHING TO CELEBRATE-CAKE MIX RECALL

Four types of cake mix are being recalled after a salmonella outbreak.  The Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday that Conagra Brands is recalling four of its Duncan Hines cake mixes because of possible salmonella contamination.  The company says a CDC investigation has found salmonella in a retail sample of Duncan Hines Classic White cake mix that might be linked to five cases of salmonella illness.   CLICK HERE FOR FDA LISTING AND MORE INFORMATION ON THE RECALL

TEN YEAR OLD HELD ON 50K CASH BOND

A ten-year-old girl is being held on 50-thousand-dollar cash bond in Chippewa County as the investigation into the death of an infant continues.  The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office received a call about an unresponsive baby boy last week.  He was airlifted from St. Joseph’s Hospital to a hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota where he passed away.  The girl allegedly confessed to police that she stomped on the head of the six-month-old.

TREU DUE IN CHIPPEWA COUNTY COURT TODAY TO FACE MULTIPLE CHARGES

The man accused of hitting and killing three young girls and a mother with his truck is due in court in Chippewa County today. The Lake Hallie police sergeant says 21-year-old Colten Treu crossed the center line on Highway P near Webber Field on Saturday and hit three Girl Scouts as they were picking up trash on the side of the road. Treu could be facing multiple charges including hit-and-run involving death and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

DEADLY CRASH IN MONROE COUNTY

A Wilton man is dead after a utility vehicle crash in Monroe County. Police responded to the crash on State Trunk Highway 71 early Sunday morning. Reports say the man crossed the center line and hit a mailbox and a utility poll which snapped the utility wires causing the UTV to flip on top of him. He was trapped until authorities arrived and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

OPEN WIDE!

Veterans in the Eau Claire area are benefiting from free health services thanks to volunteers at Chippewa Valley Technical College. CVTC hosted its Give Vets a Smile event over the weekend which usually helps veterans with free dental care. This year, veterans were able to get other health services including COPD and nutrition screenings and even haircuts. The organizers say they want to make sure this is continued as an annual event.
