Shest walked away from the Phoenix House located in the village of Gilman yesterday February 24,2019 at approximately 1:36 p.m. He was last seen at 2:00 p.m. leaving the Corner Store in the village of Gilman after purchasing alcohol. EVERS VS. PRIVATE VOUCHER AND CHARTER SCHOOLS

Governor Tony Evers wants to stop expansion in private voucher and charter schools.  Aides tell the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the governor wants to freeze the number of students who may enroll in private voucher schools and suspend new, independent charter schools until 2023.  Evers is the former state superintendent of schools who has argued the state could not properly fund its public schools while also expanding taxpayer-funded private voucher and charter school options.

THE HIGH COST OF HIGH SECURITY PRISON

Taxpayers could be on the hook for millions of dollars more than first expected to replace the maximum-security prison in Green Bay.  The Press-Gazette says today a draft report from two consulting firms estimate the replacement cost for the prison to be between 450-and-500 million dollars.  There are numerous issues with the current facility including 100-year-old infrastructure that can’t handle the eleven-hundred inmates, which is hundreds more than it was built to house.

CAMP RANDALL STEPS INTO SAFETY

There will be increased safety at Camp Randall Stadium this season.  State officials say stairway hand railings in certain sections of the stadium will be installed prior to the 2019 football season.  The university hasn’t commented on the plan.

INTERSTATE PILE UP LEAVES ONE DEAD, MANY INJURED

One person is dead and multiple people are injured after a pileup on Interstate-41 near Neenah, south of Appleton.  Police say anywhere from 20 to 40 cars were involved in the crash during whiteout conditions over the weekend.  About 20 people were taken to the hospital.  Most of them are considered to be in goof to fair condition.

NELSON MAN FACING 40 YEARS IN PRISON

A Nelson man accused of attacking someone with a knife plans to enter a plea next month on an attempted first-degree homicide charge.  A criminal complaint says police received a report 37-year-old Kenneth Teel stabbed and injured a 65-year-old man last September during an altercation at the victim’s house.  Police say Teel told them the victim would have bled out if they wouldn’t have gotten there when they did.  Teel waved his preliminary hearing last week.  He’s facing up to

MILWAUKEE BREWING UP SUPPORT FOR 2020 DEMOCRAT CONVENTION

Milwaukee is in the hunt for the 2020 Democratic National Convention.  Just like Miami and Houston.  Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez told Fox News Sunday that all three cities have a chance to host the convention.  Milwaukee has been rumored to be the favorite, partially because of the weather and partially because Wisconsin is considered a key state to winning the White House in 2020.  Perez says he hopes to pick a winning city in the next few weeks.
