A FIRST FOR BLOOMER SCHOOLS

The Bloomer School District has its first student resource officer.  The officer was hired earlier this week and the district superintendent says the officer will work ten hours a week between all schools.  The officer will be funded by the district and the city and will start next school year.

FARMERS REACT TO TRUMP AID

Dairy farmers in Wisconsin say they’ll take their portion of 16-billion-dollars in aid from President Trump, but they’d rather have trade.  Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative President Brody Stapel yesterday said farmers in the state need the help to make ends meet.  But, Stapel said he’d rather have Congress approve a new trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, so that dairy farmers can grow their way out of their current slump.  The president announced the aid package yesterday as a way to offset

PATTERSON TO BE SENTENCED

There’s very little drama heading into the sentencing for the man who took Jayme Closs.  That’s because there’s no question as to what his sentence will be.  A judge today will sentence Jake Patterson to life in prison for taking Closs and killing her parents last October.  Patterson admitted to both crimes.  He’s due before the judge in Barron County at 1:30 this afternoon.

TREU DUE IN COURT

We could get some new details in the case against the man who police say ran down three Girl Scouts last year.  Colten Treu is due in Chippewa County court for his arraignment today.  Police say Treu was huffing air duster when he swerved off the road and hit the three scouts from Lake Hallie.  His lawyer said earlier this week that he wants True’s trial moved out of Chippewa County.

PARKING CHARGES IN OVERDRIVE

As students at UW La Crosse move out, new parking rules for the city are moving-in behind them.  La Crosse started charging a dollar-per-hour to park on the streets near campus this week.  City leaders say it’s just a pilot program for now.  They want to know if people will pay to park, or if they’ll find a way around the fee.

ACT 10 BACK ON CENTER STAGE

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul says he’d defend Act 10 in court, even if many Democrats don’t like the law.  Republican lawmakers this week said they plan to step in to the latest attempt to throw out the law that changes how public sector unions can bargain in the state because they’re not sure the AG would act.  Kaul says that’s not necessary, he said he ‘fully’ anticipates that his office would defend Act 10.

WHERE’S THE BEEF?

Wisconsin is one of the states on the list for recalled beef.  The USDA is recalling 62-thousand-pounds of beef packaged at a plant in the Chicago suburbs.  There are fears about E coli.  The meat was packaged at Aurora Packing Company in North Aurora, but was sold at stores across the country.  The USDA has a full list of recalled products on its website and you can CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

GUNS IN CROSS HAIRS INSIDE CAPITOL BUILDING

There’s once again a conversation about guns inside the Wisconsin State Capitol.  Democratic state Rep. Shelia Stubbs is demanding an apology after she says Republican state Rep. Shae Sortwell wore his pistol into her office.  The Capitol allows people to carry guns, but individual lawmakers can ban them in their offices.  Stubbs bans weapons in her office.  Sortwell is not accused of threatening anyone, or being in appropriate.  Stubbs says he should apologize.  Sortwell isn’t saying if the accusations are true.

CLEAR ACT AIMS TO CLEAR UP CHEMICALS

Democratic legislators are rolling out their plan to protect communities from chemical contamination.  Chemicals called PFAS’s are found in household products as well as in firefighting foams.  The contaminant was discovered in drinking water in the town of Peshtigo near a facility that manufactures firefighter foam.  Governor Tony Evers was in Green Bay today to introduce the CLEAR Act.  It would have the DNR establish acceptable levels, standards and monitoring requirements to deal with the toxic chemicals.

TWO CHARGED IN CEMETERY DAMAGE

Earlier this month, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office took a report of damage to several headstones at the Straw Hill Cemetery located in the Township of Spring Brook. We now have more information about who was behind that. James R. Allbright Jacobson of Bloomer, Wisconsin and Chase A. Schultz of Cadott, Wisconsin were each charged with Criminal Damage to Property based upon their involvement in damaging the headstones at the cemetery. They are scheduled to appear in court on July
