EC OFFICERS JUSTIFIED IN SHOOTING

Two Eau Claire County sheriff’s deputies are being justified in using force in a shooting that followed a high speed chase.  James Haworth and Dan Eaton shot Reese Diesterhaft in the Town of Brunswick last August but the county district attorney ruled the shooting was justified.  A criminal complaint says Diesterhaft purposefully drove up to police because he wanted to get shot during the chase.  He survived the shooting.

SNOW IT GOES…REMOVAL UNDERWAY TO CLEAR STORM DRAINS

The City of Eau Claire is starting to clear packed snow out from in front of storm drains.  ity officials are urging residents to help clear the snow if they can for fear it could block the drains and cause flooding.  The city says anyone who is concerned about their safety because of the blocked drains can call the city and workers will come clear them.

PETITION HOPES TO HIT HOME RUN FOR ATHLETIC FACILITY

A group in Eau Claire has a petition to urge the school district to accept a one-point-two-million-dollar donation to upgrade Memorial High School’s athletic facilities.  The anonymous donation was submitted in January but the school district has yet to accept it because it would have to match the donation.  The school board plans to discuss the donation next week and vote on it on April 1st.

MILWAUKEE ON TAP TO SHINE IN 2020

Local leaders in Milwaukee are already talking about the Democratic National Convention as a way for the city to shine, and to make a quick buck.  Mayor Tom Barrett yesterday said hosting the convention next summer will provide Milwaukee with a showcase to the world.  There are also a lot of people who are thinking about all of the visitors, and their dollars, that will flow in as well.

WI VOTER ID REMINDER

The state of Wisconsin is reminding folks to get their voter ID ahead of the spring election.  The state’s Department of Transportation yesterday said anyone who needs a new driver’s license or state ID card should get one as soon as possible.  Election Day is April 2nd.

AMBER ALERT

An AMBER Alert is in place for a missing one-year-old girl from Milwaukee.  Authorities say Nolani Robinson went missing yesterday and is believed to be with Dariaz Higgins, also known as Dariaz Lewis.  Dariaz is considered armed and dangerous, and was last seen operating a 2014 black Cadillac with a Florida license plate.

H2O-NO! FLOOD RISK CREEPS UP

Eau Claire city officials are planning for possible flooding.  The National Weather Service said yesterday that there’s a nearly 35-percent chance of moderate flooding in the area, and a 30-percent chance of major flooding.  The risk comes after last month’s record setting snowfall and continued heavy snows this month.

MERRY GO ROUNDABOUTS

The public is weighing in on a proposed makeover at State Street Hill.  Residents spoke about the two-and-a-half million dollar proposal at an Eau Claire City Council public hearing yesterday.  Changes include adding several roundabouts, upgrading water and sewer lines, and widening sidewalks and streets.  Some citizens are raising concerns about adding more roundabouts, while city officials feel they will keep traffic moving.

NO INJURIES IN EC BASEMENT FIRE

No one is injured after a fire in Eau Claire.  Fire officials say the blaze started yesterday afternoon in the basement of a multi-unit apartment in the eleven-hundred block of Barland Street.  Crews were able to contain the fire to the basement.  No word on the cause of the fire or any damage estimates.

BB GUN STAND OFF LEADS TO PRISON TIME

A man accused of shooting Eau Claire officers with a BB gun during a standoff is facing prison time.  Police say Emmitt Ritter-Simpson is accused of repeatedly firing rounds from a pellet gun at officers at a home last January, hitting three.  Authorities say he also booby trapped the home with explosives, and allegedly tried to kill a jailer while in custody.  Ritter-Simpson was sentenced to eight years in prison, followed by ten years of extended supervision.
